Description Vintage souvenir postcard circa 1957
Screw Steamer Lurline

Sharing this for a giggle and as a reminder to write neatly when sending postals. . .
This was mailed from Honolulu Hawaii to Rising Sun, Indiana instead of
Rising Sun, Maryland. A difference of about 9 hours' drive or 568 miles!

In 1963 ZIP Codes were introduced by the United States Postal Service
(USPS). The term ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan; it was chosen to
suggest that the mail travels more efficiently and quickly (zipping along) when
senders use the code in the postal address. By giving cities and towns unique ZIP
codes it sought to eliminate situations like this.

I've shared this card before: SS Lurline - Matson Line

and you can read her interesting bio by clicking the above picture. She was
top luxury ocean liner in the Matson fleet, she held a long career cruising to and
from San Francisco, Los Angeles and Honolulu both before and after World War II.

 more Lurline here!

my pleasure and just a bit of fun, sometimes I find odd things like that on the cards that I think others will get a kick from.

You can see what happened here! The writer's 'Md' actually looks more like 'Ind' than what was meant~~~ Kinda nice that cursive was a bit simplified by the time I learned it (early 60's) lol

Yep, exactly and cursive lettering was tough for many children, I recall my sister struggled with her letters and crying about it, my parents got her a tutor so she wouldn't fall behind in her classes. It was vital back then for a young lady's self esteem and social standing to have good penmanship, you know!
