Description I actually drew this on the 4th of July, of all the odd things, but didn't get to scan or post it until today. Can't say I'm totally proud of how it turned out (I mean, Simon's neck kind of makes him look like he's part giraffe or something; plus, I can't draw his mask for love nor money,) but it was better than the initial few sketches of him I tried.

WALL OF TEXT HEADCANON TIME!
Simon Baz was the fifth man to receive a Green Lantern power ring in his universe, Earth-52. He was chosen by a very unique ring that had been worn extensively by both the former renegade Sinestro, and corps. hero, Hal Jordan. The ring had been so saturated in use by both men that it chose Simon both because he has the ability to overcome great fear, but he is also capable of instilling and using the power of fear itself (though to a far lesser degree than any full-fledged Yellow Lantern.) The ring chose Simon at a critical time for his universe: the Guardians had descended into a strange madness and were hell-bent on a mission to assimilate all living, thinking beings into their "Third Army" in order to control their universe. It was believed that all the Guardians had fallen to this madness, with the exceptions of those Guardians still in touch with their emotions, who had been imprisoned eons ago, and Sayd, who was slaughtered before she could tell Ganthet she loved him. The Third Army spread rapidly, and soon the Green Lanterns began to fall.
Simon however, was contacted unexpectedly by Scar, the brilliant-yet-mad female Guardian who allied herself with the Black Lantern Corps. Much like the late Guardian Krona, Scar is driven by unknown motivation toward mysterious goals, and believes that Simon is more important than he realizes, and that the other Guardians must not know of his rise to the rank of a Green Lantern. Scar believes it is too late to save their own universe; that it will eventually become a dead zone, devoid of any true life, and transports Simon, his parents, and his sister and brother-in-law across the parallel oceans of stars, telling him they may yet "meet" again.
In this new universe, Simon is met with parallel mirrors of the Justice League of his own Earth. After some initial hesitancy, much discussion, and intervention on the parts of the current Earth Lanterns (Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner) of this new universe, Simon's family is safely relocated and helped to settle in somewhere while Simon is readily inducted into the Green Lantern Corps. proper. While he still is hesitant and awkwardly uncomfortable in the presence of the Corps., John Stewart and Guy Gardner encourage him to ditch his mask, reminding him that nobody knows him in this universe, so he has no reason to fear or hide his face. Simon agrees reluctantly, though he is still given to letting his uniform create its mask often while on missions.
Simon has a rather quiet, reserved manner about him, and tends not to trust people too quickly or easily. He is less likely to rush headfirst into a situation than Guy or Hal, but prefers to analyze things a bit more and keep on his guard, like John and Kyle. He often has trouble concentrating on using his ring (and even trusting the ring, too!) in order to form constructs, but when in the middle of a fight with his life or someone else's life on the line, he is able to form full constructs with barely more than instinct. His constructs generally take the form of some sort of land vehicle; this is likely due to criminal activity on his part in his universe, where Simon boosted hot cars for a greedy car-salesman employer (to prevent his family from being hurt.) As such, Simon has additional skills used in boosting cars, and has excellent potential as a professional thief. He avoids straying into that sort of behavior again, partly due to not wanting to disappoint or upset his family, and partly due to not wanting to disappoint or upset the other Earth Lanterns, (who he's warming up to, albeit somewhat slowly.)

Art is © to me

The sole purpose of this project is to be informative for friends, fellow fans, and the readers of my writing to have better insight into what the DC universe and in this case, members of the Green Lantern Corps. and likewise other Lantern Corps., are like in my mind and how that translates into my fan work. This is my own personal take on the character of Green Lantern Simon Baz, which is based off of his depiction in the current New 52 comics, with adjustments made accordingly, as I dislike immensely the concept of the Guardians trying to snuff out all life in order to control the universe. This headcanon is not meant to offend or upset anyone who likes that concept, but to give them a better idea of how my headcanons work and how they affect my fanfiction writing.

As you can probably tell, I'm haphazardly making my way through your posts, picking random things . Hope you don't mind all of the jumping around!

I quite like the detail of Simon being from another universe. It's an interesting way of bending canons. And it also helps to make sense of his ring having been worn extensively by his world's Hal and Sinestro. I wonder in the presence of two of the same rings in one universe causes any confusion or strange effects.

I quite approve of your description of Simon's characteristics, which are very accurate based on what little I've seen on Simon.

Wonderfully detailed headcanon as always. I look forward to seeing some interaction between Simon and Nuriyah!

I don't mind at all! XD Pick and jump away~

Well, considering he's exclusively a New 52 character and I consider most New 52 stuff to be applicable to Earth-52... *helpless shrugs and a weak laugh*
I think it's an interesting concept to explore, considering Simon's ring has very strange side effects of its own? If what I understand in my reading was correct, Sinestro received Hal's ring for a short period of time, something happened, the ring split into one Green and one Yellow... and then at some point it was merged back together in a single Green ring. 0_o; It's a little confusing, but because the nature of the ring was fractured, altered, and then reconnected, there are certain powers and safeguards Sinestro put in place on the ring that interfere with its ability to function properly as a whole Green ring or part of a Yellow one. Perhaps that could negate some cross-dimensional paradox laws?

^^~ Why thank you for that! I feel like we don't always see a lot into Simon's personal thoughts and feelings beyond his determination, coupled with his nervous fear of the situations he's thrown into. But that doesn't mean that can't be read into, right? I suppose what I really take away from that is, given his background, Simon doesn't befriend people easily or open up easily and he's overall a generally cautious person who wants to do the right thing, but isn't always sure what the right away to go about it is.

^^~ And thank you yet again! Oh, I'm going to have fun working on interactions between Simon and Nuriyah, as well as her with the other Green Lantern guys.

That's a perfectly reasonable decision to make . Lord knows that the majority of the New 52 does not deserve to be associated with pre-Flashpoint goodness. And since Simon seems to be one of the few worthwhile New 52 creations, I completely understand why you might take the approach you did with his origins.

My goodness, that is quite complicated . I do find the idea that the ring was influenced by its wearers to be fascinating though. I think there's a tendency to assume that the rings are just weapons and that there's not much else too them. But when you think about it, there's a lot about them that is pretty mysterious. We know how they affect those who wear them, but the way that the wearers affect the rings themselves is an idea that is definitely worth exploring.

It's nice to see a more introverted and cautious Lantern x). Especially among the ranks of Hal Jordan and Guy Gardener.

Looking forward to it

I'm really digging your headcannon ideas Yoru! It always makes me smile to see how much research you've done on characters, and it pays off as well! Loving what you've come up with  for Simon Baz- I'm certainly interested in learning more! Xx

Aaaawww... thank you so much, Jinxy my dear!
To be honest, I'd been wanting to do something with Simon for a while now. I knew of his character being introduced in the New 52, and while I cannot say I'm enjoying a lot of the plotline that surrounded his appearance and things, I am definitely starting to get pretty attached to him as a character. He's a bit of a smart-alec sometimes, with a slightly sassy flair, but he's generally quiet and unassuming, which means getting to see him cut loose more as a Green Lantern is AWESOME~!! X3

Always welcome Yoru! (:

Humm, he certainly sounds fascinating now that you've described him in that way! I've been looking more into the Green Lantern side of comics, finding a few at my local library- and even though I haven't seen him in them yet I do know of his character! (: Xx

Oooh, good luck! I feel like those are rare finds, even in an American library! I can tell you that Simon's first really significant appearance is in the graphic novel "Rise of the Third Army." It's not his first appearance (it takes place just after he receives his ring,) but I'm not sure where he first makes his initial appearance (graphic novel-wise, that is.)

We have a comic book section in the library but it's often dominated by Marvel stuff so it's rare to find DC comics in there ^^" but I keep searching :3

Humm, I must take a look into it then! I'm sure I can find it online somewhere and acquire it : D
(Ahhh I see! Still, it certainly sounds interesting!) Xx

Oh- the muscles between the neck and shoulder are what's making him look like his neck is long- the neck looks a good length to me If you pulp them up a bit he'll be totally fine

And yeah... New 52. I'm REALLY hoping that Kyle will use his white lantern powers somehow to erase the whole killing the universe slowly thing. That was such a dumb idea O.o

Oooh! Thank you so much for pointing that out! I needed that! I'm not sure if I'll be editing this piece any time soon, just due to a lot of stuff going on IRL, but I'm definitely going to be keeping that in mind, both for future sketches and art, as well as this piece in general!

:< Agreed. SOMETHING needs to be done, at least!

It's no worries I like to help out if someone isn't sure why something didn't turn out right and I thought you might like to know.
