After hearing from Papyrus what happened last time, Sans gathers up the energy for one last try. He asked him about whether or not he had a choice a long long time ago , and Gaster didn't answer. Now here we are!
A far cry from how debates with Sans used to go . I wonder if Gaster's going to make a decision soon.

This Becomes Far More Dramatic When You Imagine That Sans And Papyrus Are Different Parts of Gaster's Mind, Sans Being The Negative Part of His Brain Telling Him He's To Blame For The Death of His Own Brothers, And Papyrus Being The Part Of His Brain Telling Him To Forgive Himself And Move On With His Life

I have never shivered from a comic before. Videos, with transitions I cannot control, catch me; but never images, which I have some control over how and when I see the next part. But god damn Sans made me shudder. A+++++

So quiet, so good. Gaster doesn't even say anything, and there's just this quiet moment of Sans not even being sarcastic, just truthful as he's stroking his brother's head. Really love your work, and how you explore so many of the implications of this "family." I wonder what your work-process pictures are like.

He is strong enough to make those choices, they just have too weak of an outcome for him.
I'm not trying to defend Gaster's horrible acts on Papyrus and Sans it's just that is doing this all for a reason. And that reason... is for Asgore!
Think about it, he's doing all these really bad and torturous tests is to keep Asgore HIMSELF from kill off more children. I'm mean think about Asogre is a friendly and lovable just like Papyrus, if not more so, but he's DETERMINED to do what he has to, in order to save Monster kind from the Barrier. I mean if Papyrus know about the world outside the Lab they've known he'd want to save them too, but obviously he'd want to try and find another way from kill PERIOD! And believe me it be awesome if he found another way but... there isn't... not for them at least. And as bad as Papyrus has it, it's NOTHING to what Asgore went through... :/
It's kinda hard to judge someone like him for being faced with that kind of burden and choice, and expecting him to just... be okay with he's friend commit murder to innocent children that fall into the Underground and not try to do something to keep Asgore from darkening his SOUL with EXP and LV. And Gaster knows that Asgore doesn't have the same darkness about humans that he does. So it makes sense that he'd want to take his place in kill them instead.
So think of it this way... if Papyrus went through half of what Asgore went through, and he'd want to do that same thing Asgore was... doing to the Humans that fall into the Underground... and he did want to take their SOULs to save the break the Barrier... don't you think someone... else would want to take his place.
It's Ironic that if Sans was in Gaster position... he'd be no different from how Gaster... causes he'd be just as "weak" as him... he'd choose the same things as him... he would be "strong" enough either. :/
