Another SA style pic, this time of my character, Ghost the Rainbow Serpent. Pose reference: Blaze
Ghost the Rainbow Serpent is the third youngest of his nine siblings and hails from the House of Mythos from the Mythsetia Veil. Born mute, Ghost's every thought is a true mystery. He can communicate with sign language and flashing lights but often chooses not to. Like his siblings, he can manipulate an element; in his case, he can control all forms of light energy. He has amazing speed and is almost as stealthy as his older brother Umber. Next to Pine, he is one of Garnett's most loyal servants and is currently scouring the lands for his younger sister, Azure.

Vision: "Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?" The color and color mixing schemes here are quite nice for one. I don't know much about Rainbow Serpents (none at all in fact), but the look and idea here is incredible. I see you went with the reptilian look all the way. The tail is reminiscent of a rattlesnake, and his "hood" reminds me of a cobra. So the reptile theme is very clear in his physical appearance. But it goes one step further. His bracelets and anklets look like coiled up snakes, adding to the look in his simple costume design.
Originality: "Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven't seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?" Seeing as how this is the first rainbow serpent to enter any Sonic continuity that I am aware of, absolutely. His look is fresh but with a Sonic-style twist. The fact that his profile mentions him being mute is also quite new from my experience. It adds both originality and mystery to his character. Makes you wonder what goes on in his head.
Technique: "Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used?" The technique is improved since Azure's work. I know I keep bringing that up, but it gives me a base to work with when comparing. The technique is quite beautiful. I'd like point out his stripe design for this. Many times I would have expected someone to put a black line in between each set of different colored stripes going along his skin and not just for the outline of his being. It makes his skin seem smoother than if there were black lines there. The colors blend well, making the character quite appealing to look at. Believe me, this could have easily turned into a mess of colors if it wasn't handled right, and you sure delivered.
Impact: "Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?" It invokes a few emotions in me. His loyalty is good, if not misplaced. The colors just jump out at me and are just so pretty to look at. The character design itself is beautiful to say the least. His personality though is quite the opposite of his external appearance. A mysterious mute that no one really knows what goes on in his head. Makes me think he's got more on his mind than we realize. It's the quiet ones that you have to worry about.
Personal Thoughts: He's...so...colorful! That's been the theme of this critique thus far. He's probably the most colorful character out of many of the Sonic caste, if not the most colorful. Too bad his personality doesn't match. But I find that catchy. He's one of those characters that you just cannot judge by outside appearances. It makes me wonder what he's thinking. How does he REALLY feel about the situation with Azure? Does he care at all? Is he really just a heartless and uncaring reptile? Is he really loyal to Garnett, or does he have a hidden agenda? I don't think Garnett even knows. I guess we'll see Ghost's true colors (pun totally intended) at the end. I'm the one hoping that Ghost is not as loyal as Garnett makes him out to be. Hmmm, this is a REALLY good Sonic fan character. Best one I've ever seen my whole life, in fact. 99.99% of Sonic OCS are just Amy recolors with huge boobs, or overpowered Sonic recolors that can go Hyper without any Emeralds. But this is something REALLY good. The design is original. But not only that, it's just so beautiful and flawless. And most importantly, this guy would be a great addition to the official Sonic The Hedgehog series character roster. He would fit right in and not be out of place. And I've noticed that all your OCS are quite good. They make the Sonic OC fandom not seem so bad. But this character especially is just the best one. And others who also fit this description could be Payne, Garnett, and Anubis. Those guys are the members of your Sonic fan characters that stick out the most. Aka, they're the best ones. But this Ghost guy is just the best one of all. Great job on him.

You're welcome, and that's all true. When making fan characters, they have to be new animals. There are already enough hedgehogs. We got Sonic, Shadow, Silver, Scourge, and Mephiles. And echidnas are all supposed to be extinct except for Knuckles, Tikal, and Shade. Randomly bringing another one out of nowhere would be nonsense. And cats are ok, but I feel like they're a bit cliche and overused. Big and Blaze are the only cat characters. But I feel that cats are too common as fan characters in every fandom. Maybe a good cat character could say otherwise, but I haven't seen one yet, so I'm not convinced.

The character's nice, but with lack of posing and lack of actual SA style it's not really a channel style pic. you just used a lot of effects. You should shade it in 3 layers, one for real shading, two for the highlights, one lighter with a shadow behind it, the style youre using looks too much like the Sonic X style, which is completely different. And you shouldnt just strike your paths, you should create the whole path for the creation and fill it, looks more crisper and has more variety in the curves. The important part is patience. Even if he has powers based of flashing lights, the blurry splash of lines for the channel doenst fit with the style and makes it very hard to see. It's not a bad job but it's inconsistent with the style you're apparently using.

I can see that you put a lot of effort in designing this FC, you did a really good job, he looks original and cool at the same time. I particularly appreciate the fact that you tried to show his element, not by simply coloring him with a light color but using a rainbow. I like the bracelets.
