Description Ok, so during the... well I hate to say twilight, so we'll stick with dusk... I set my scope up and thought I'd have a pop at the moon. My intentions were to shoot a blue sky background for this one but the clouds had other ideas.

So here is the moon at around 6pm on the 30th of January. Collimation still needs work and there was TONS of turbulance in the atmosphere (it was like it was underwater) But I thought, FECK IT and shot anyway.

I especially like those big craters that are so huge that they have cone in the center. You know, it's actually just grey wasteland, but I could stare at it forever.

And to use your words: Feck it, it's awesome!

Thanks man, the Moon really is beautiful up close, I wish I could jump a lil closer than this with my scope, would love to get more detail.

Tell me when you spot the landing site of one of the Apollo-missions. That will be the moment when I'll call you "Master".

It's a lie! I tell you!

Also: Using Google doesn't qualify one to be called "Master". Trust me, I know what I'm talking about...

Haha thanks really glad its amazing the difference even a tiny amount of zoom makes to the moon. Looks epic even through tiny binoculars.

This is brilliant, Ted. I really like the sharp edges to the craters and the shadows along the light/dark division.

Which lens did you use that has an f/1.0 aperture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

12GSuper In reply to LadyLyonnesse [2012-01-31 23:27:44 +0000 UTC]

Haha 1000mm lens at f/1 shit..... I freaking wish! That'd be maybe £50k or so.

I used my telescope with a 2x barlow lens (basically a Teleconverter) and my camera plugged into that. I think with the barlow it makes my scope f/8

Also fact time the divide? Called The Terminator really glad you like it that makes shooting stuff (that I often worry hasn't turned out well) worth it.

Ah. Telescope. Nope. Don't have one of those.

I think this is a wonderful shot, and don't stop shooting, because I always enjoy your efforts.

You've a few moon shots, even a small scope can really add to your "arsenal".

Also great for nature.

Su-fecking-perb! Its basically my scope with a better mount and GOTO capability.

I'm more than jealous!!

Oh, goody! That means I can pick your brains when I screw up, does it?!

The bloody thing weighs 103lb; God knows how I'll manage lugging it around! A polar finder scope is extra, at $86, but worth the extra, I think.

12GSuper In reply to LadyLyonnesse [2012-02-01 19:25:39 +0000 UTC]

Thats lame, really lame. Mine came with my mount because skywatcher are apparently wonderful

103lbs psssssh! You'll be fine. I'll happily swap if its too heavy for ya

But yeah. Polar scopes really are good, though can't replace star drift alignment for shooting without guiding.

That is incredibly clear. How'd you kill the haze?

Also, one film cannot kill that word. I wont let it.

Tried to get a mega fast shutter speed. I think this was about 1/400 or something. I took about 15 images and then scrolled through them for the best. Its so weird when you do that, the craters change shape by 50% sometimes! I have one that warped a crater to a perfect square, freakin' weird.

I still wish for clearer. I'm gonna pop out later and if its calmer try finish of imagine Pleiadiesesiaissisis. Or however you spell that!

Let it go dude, that word is dead...
