Damn, I'd like to see you take a crack at the Boneshaker (from Stephanie Priest's novel).

Ohh, this sounds like an interesting series. (though admittedly I'm not a big fan of zombies.. ^~; )

Me neither, but sometimes the totality with which a world is realized can make up for a tired subject, haha.

Awesome artwork, and I hope you enjoy Boneshaker if you read it.

yeah I love see those steampunk devices, always so fascinating for a high tech in victorian cover Uhn, do you get inspiration also in movies for those creations? reminds me a mix of older Flash Gordon ships as well the drilling machine from the BurroughsΒ΄ underground world tales ^^

Sort of. I was mostly thinking of *other* subterranean drillers that have already been done like the one in the original Total Recall or the ones in the original Ninja Turtle cartoon.

...and then I just try to design in a way that doesn't infringe on what they've done.

Aww, I see. Well, once some artists set the basic design, and becomes a famed or "sacred" design, is hard go away the basic lines ^^

I sense a little bit of Last Exile and a little bit of narwhal.

...everything is related to Last Exile.

Pffffftttttttt ohman ohman that sounds SO exciting--and very much the perfect thing for you, hahah! Maaaaan all those spikes do look dangerous~ *_*;;

47ness In reply to Laitma [2012-10-11 02:16:53 +0000 UTC]

I figure if it had to, the vehicle could drive through a crowd of enemy soldiers too, hence the spikes. XD;

...Well, that's rather violent now, isn't it? Oh dear~ @_@;;

And that's why more spikes on a design = more evil. XD

Neat work- The design is unique but at the same time very familiar (as if something like this existed at some point). It certainly looks dangerous enough!

As for the watermark, it almost looks like lettering on the craft itself.

The downside is I think the drill would only go through soil; solid rock would require a whole 'nother design.

Heh, you're looking at the revised watermark. I tried using dA's default one and it just mangled ev'rything.

w00t drills are actually awesome when they look like that.

I loosely based it off those road construction drills ...also my wine opener. Β¦P

Size comparison hoorah! I see the door has gotten a lot less cute. But if I were planning an attack I'd totally have these guys up on front and the steam wagons in the middle of my army
Spiky repetition, me likes!

It's the ugly stepson door...! They probably wouldn't want a window when tunneling through miles of earth.

I wanted to put giant spikes on the hubcaps but it would've been design overkill. XD

Aw well, it looks like the cool slide-y type

Only thing cooler are gull-wing doors, like on the DeLoreon.

I'll try to find an excuse to paint flames in a future design!

That back wheel makes me think it has some good charging power. I can imagine the drill start up and as the rotation speed begins to increase, the engine starts rev'ing- the whole thing starts to shake a little. The front brakes lock on as the big beast of a back wheel rages and spins on the spot until, BOOM! The vehicle goes zooming into its target like a crazy torpedo!

Unfortunately the enemy had better mobility and just drove out of the way- thus destroying the Gyro Drill as it plowed into an iron wall.
