Description “The Olmech” is a kind of anti-grav tank that utilizes omnidirectional drive to aim its gun.

Definitely one of the more interesting concepts I've taken on for this RPG...!

I agree. It was by far the most unique design prompt I had for this project.

This is so out-of-this-world!

Haha thanks. I'm still pretty ambivalent about this one, but I did my best to follow the prompt the client gave me.

Hahah well, there's always that give or take when working with clients ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But, viewing this from a third-party standpoint, it's an impressive visual and a very cool idea behind it.

Thanks~

Uniqueness > Mainstream Appeal is certainly my jam (though it would be nice to have BOTH??!)

Interesting design. clean visual appeal.

Definitely one of my weirder design challenges. (For this piece I used purely digital tools- it helps when there's so many circular/elliptical elements to consider... XD)

jfc look at the dETAILS On this thing!! !!! !
also the face-but-sorta-not-a-face is a really cool concept, and you can really imagine how the whole thing would swivel to turn that giant honkin' turret, hehehe

Whole lotta copy-paste-Transform. XD

I guess... it was a tough one to conceptualize (though I've seen a few real-life robots that use omnidirectional steer and it looks weird asf)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcZJA3… ehhh... I can't seem to find any good examples (I remember going to a competitive robot fighting show once and there was one using omnidirectional steering that could zip around quite fast)

Very apprppriate name! Feel the power of the old Mexican gods also the quantity of rectangular panels make me think that this guy i8s heavily armoured If he attacks, must also take attacks! ^^ Cool work

Yep! I believe the lore calls for the Olmech to be made of stone armor (hence the lack of rivets).

So cool! Can i ask what software you used, the linework and shading are amazing.

Thanks.

The illustration was done on Photoshop CS5, using an Intuos4 drawing tablet. The rough 3-D modeling was done on Google Sketchup 8.

Fantastic, it truly oozing with awesomeness.

Must always have a mean angry face in a tank to make it go 11.

Still has that new tank smell.

Haha maybe. I know that artillery crews open their mouths when firing to avoid hurting themselves, so...

It's almost like a tank meant for Rayman.

47ness In reply to CZProductions [2016-06-04 22:14:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha, it was hard NOT to think about Rayman while working on this.

(though I can think of some other early pre-rendered 3D characters like Vectorman and a couple more from Bomberman 64) but Rayman is the most enduring example.
