This is definitely one of my favourite pieces of yours along with Grown together. And while I don't feel they could be further apart in there over all esthetic I can't help but feel the same amount of passion and intensity in both pieces. But onto the critic.
Composition in all regards excellent. Your placement of the figure and use of colour in the background moves your eye around nicely and keeps the picture moving nicely always giving your eye something to look at. The fact the her face is darker then the rest and more detailed draws your eye back again and again. Perfect execution.
Your color use is great. Very captivating and pleasing.
The only reason I put originality lower is because of the subject matter. But the execution is flawless. Honestly I don't know how one could make a portrait original anymore. So I'm not laying any fault at your feet for that. Besides who doesn't love painting females or looking at them. Or people in general. We are vain creatures.

Absolutely stunning work. I love it.

The extra bit of "darkness" behind her head is a bit like an afterimage, which gives the work a strong sense of movement. The piece overall gives the viewer the feeling of memory or thought, along with a sense of impending approach, as if a stronger movement is anticipated...like the calm before a storm, a moment of recollection, a gathering of strength, or a sense of giving in to something explosive. This is a very strong piece. I'd find it hard for anyone not to FEEL something while looking at this.

The technique used is also very professional: amassing such powerful colors in such a gentle way against the hard shades of the form creates such a beautiful contrasting evironment. The expression (eyes closed) is massively thought-provoking and leaves a lot of wiggle-room for the viewer to build a story upon. Superb work!

First of all, I critique this according to my opinion and my taste even though I try my best to be objective.

I like this painting, I really do. The composition is nice, nicely fit to the paper but the fact that she is being cut at the shoulder disturbs me a little bit. It feel like she has a whole body but in order to make a composition, she is cut below the shoulders. My solution is the same as Romans that made those beautiful busts. It looks complete as it's own, not cut or forced into a frame. Some of your paintings have that effect. Yes, I know those are made with lighter colours and it will be different with darker colours you have used here. But it can be done better I think.

Also I like the dark colours, salute is strong, thumbnail is strong. also have a feeling of three dimension.

About originality, I have stated earlier that I see woman portraits as cliche, but I think this one stands out, not just because it's technique is very good, also because the main thing is not her beauty unlike all of other watercolour woman portraits.

Technique is very good, or my eyes are too untrained to see any mistake e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

About impact, because the colours are at the foreground, it has more impact. And her face has some emotions that I can explore. Maybe it's her last breath, maybe she is doing drugs, I don't know, but I like it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>. Also I think the name of the painting reduces the impact, but it needs a name doesn't it.

Thank you for reading this critique.

Have a good day.

I know different person has different tastes of art, and I do appreciate your words. However I really can't agree with the rating of the last section, impact. She uses negative space pretty well, and made distinctive contrast between light colors and the dark ones, which is amazingly powerful. And I also love the title of this piece! Because it doesn't limit your imagination, it let go your mind and enable you to dig into it. I'm not being offensive or anything, I just want to release some of my personal thoughts.

Id like you to explain your reasoning behind your comment about the shoulder. I don't understand what you are trying to say. I don't get the roman bust reference either. I'm not trying to be rude or nothing. Just curious about your thoughts and would like to discuss. I also personally like the title. What would you consider a good title for this piece?

Okay, I don't know how to make it more clear but I'll try. What I mean is it feels like the shoulder is cut to make the girl fit the page. About the bust reference, when they are making bust, they don't just use a horizontal line to finish the bust. Maybe it wouldn't fit this particular painting but it's a way.

I found a reference for what I am trying to say in another agnes cecile's painting.

Oh I mean "silhouette" in the third paragraph, not "salute". Autocorrect...

Caked thick with paint
Over and over
Each new coat
A brand new beginning

Chipped away
Cracked and thin
Her core laid bare
Who she's always been

On a journey
Of heart and mind
Finding herself
One layer at a time

The core is true
But so is the paint
It's been a pleasure
Not being a saint
