Description It's been way too long since I've done much art - again - and I also spent way too long on this. Classes start again in the morning, and I stayed up later than intended, painting! Whoops.

Playing with a bit of a different painting technique, trying to get more texture from just the brushes used themselves.

As usual, comments are welcome c:

Yeah... I don't really want to picture what one would do with a magic fox that's bigger on the inside...

just a tardis goose, not a tardis fox! Also, a fox that's bigger on the inside could eat an infinite amount of people. We shall rule the world!!

I love the clouds! (thanks for the comment about how you made them!) The overall color palette is just amazing.

Thanks! Colour is something else that definitely doesn't come easy x) so I usually fiddle with the overall colours a lot. And no worries, like I said to Frizzles, I never mind answering questions on how I did something.

Man, I dunno! I agree, skies are SUPER SUPER hard, but I love it when they're well done. I'm slowly improving my sky skills x x

Generally, I start by really roughly brushing in light and dark areas in some kind of monochrome. I like to use a transparent brush, because then you get a lot of randomness and unevenness in the tone that can be picked out. I usually use 'overlay' and other layer properties to get the lightness and darkness to where I want it, then go in and start picking out highlights and defining things, usually making a bit more cloud-shaped definition between light and dark areas.

For this painting, I next put in some reflected light (again using layer blending properties - it ended up being the yellow and orange you see here) and also made the clouds in the lower half a lot more faded and subtle. I'm really bad at remembering that contrast between sharply-defined and vague is as important as between colours x) The blue sky visible in the middle was added near the end of this process, again using layer blending modes and just playing with them until I got a look that seemed nice. For a lot of this stage's painting, I used the 'art marker 90' brush from this set - [link]

When the macro tones were about where I wanted them, I went in and worked on the final texture using the size 80 line-y brush from here: [link] but fiddled with a bit so it was smoother. To get the texture I wanted, I made the brush smaller for clouds that I imagined as further away, and larger for closer ones. I also used it for the rain c: Mostly I just used the brush to fuzz the edges and blend a bit. I do have a really nice 'cloud' brush, but it's a little too fluffy and random for these sorts of clouds.

So it's not a very scientific process! But maybe that explains a little? x) I can clarify anything you like.

And hee hee hee, yesss, foxes are amazing. If I had $7000 I would want one of those domesticated silver foxes.

Hahaha no worries, I ~love~ hearing how people do their art, so it only makes sense to share when asked. x)

Oh man, go look up youtube videos as soon as possible! Apparently you can even litter-train them. If I were rich, man.
