Very nicely sketched on her curves and muscle from her tush to her muscles. The howling/pose adds to the beauty of her natural side.

Thank you very much, I was feeling really inspired when I drew this so the scene came in a more raw way. Nizhoni wolf is a great artist and friend so I had to draw her something for her birthday .

Yay, you are alive! Glad you liked this one, this minimalist style I've been playing is a lot of fun, I'd recommend for you to try .

Using a single color on the page helps setting a point of interest, it is a good exercise to improve the composition for more complex drawings .

Thank you very much dear, this one came out better than I was expecting . Unintentionally the white ink on recycled paper do give this classic japanese/chinese illustration feel which I completely love.

More pictures like this will definitely come. Thank you very much again .

Really nice, Ariel!  She looks lonely though.   Maybe Ferric should visit...  Oh, wait; he's a fox.

Lovely colors!  Hard to decide whether to call it a "sketch" or something more.  The mottling in the clouds is nice too.  I'd like to see a -little- less of it at top and a little more around the tree.

I agree with Tinselfire about the hand/paw, but I actually -like- this background for this type of sketch.  Anything fancier would overpower the sketch; probably because of the minimal coloring.  I -like- that the wolf and background have similar types of coloring, -but- that the wolf just has more of it (and more detailing) to make her stand out from the background.

The flower is a very nice touch too.  I would consider maybe toning down its coloring just a bit, but otherwise I like it.

This picture looks very good both in small and large versions!  Great job!  The only thing off about the small version is that the branch holding the flower looks too weak, almost broken, just to the right of where it crosses onto the moon.  It looks fine in the large version!  I think strengthening just one of those other lines a tiny bit to give the left and right a stronger connection would fix that without messing up the large version.

Just my two centavos worth!

Thank you very much . She is lonely but not for much longer as her call surely will bring her pack together once again. Ferric probably could visit, but he would need to be very good in disguise to pretend he is a woof as well .

I personally consider this a bit more than a sketch because it took me far more time and attention to do. A regular sketch is usually done in no more than 90 minutes while this can go to 3 to 4 hours even being very loose in style.

My objective with this technique is to make the subject the most animal like as possible and still look natural, backgrounds will be kept minimalist because the focus is on the foreground and the character.

Another touch I'll add to this style is to have a single colored element per picture, be that the character's eyes, a candle or the flower, nothing more than that to avoid overloading the picture with visual information. I wanted to draw the wolf's eyes for this but the pose didn't allow .

About the branch, the idea was to make it look fragile, like the lone flower held by it, like the flower a wolf is fragile on her own. Perhaps the wind will blow the flower away to a secret garden where it won't be lonely anymore, just like the wolf that soon will see her kind again .

I didn't have anything clever to say at the time , your feedback left me out of words, to be honest, that was the only real reaction I had. It is always a joy to read a thoughtful and sincere opinion about something I drew .

Such a nice birthday gift, I am sure your friend will love it .

Also, back perspective is hard to get right, so extra kkudos for that! .

Thank you so much! Looks like she loved it .

Back poses can be tricky but I have a special fall for them , I don't know exactly why, but these kinds of poses seem to hold some kind of mystery with them, something contemplative I'd say, since the character isn't facing the viewer and being consequently exposed.

I had, without god results so far XD . But I'll keep trying! .

Also, is there a meaning to the lonely blue flower there?

ARCR-CRic In reply to Chiletrek [2017-07-19 04:37:32 +0000 UTC]

Keep going and you'll see that every new attempt will become better than the one before, the more you draw the faster you improve .

Oh yes, the flower is there to make the viewers wonder why is it there . Jokes apart, I thought on drawing it to enhance the visual impact of the picture and also to work as a focal point along with the white moon and the woof's face, like the wolf, the flower is lonely on that fragile condition, just waiting for a smooth wind to carry it to a place where it won't be alone no more, will the wolf and the flower find their way out from solitude? It is up for you to decide

Beautiful. Just love the shine, the texture of the fur, especially above the root of the tail - and even more, how you've fused a hand and paw into a very agreeable middle ground. Usually the background would be a bit on the simple side for my taste, but with the addition of the single flower simplicity becomes a real asset, keeping the viewers on their toes. The flower looks almost to be a butterfly, fearless of the werewolf's call to kin. Intriguing.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of white ink do you use? I use Sakura jelly for portability, but the ball tends to clog against pecils.

ARCR-CRic In reply to Tinselfire [2017-07-02 02:56:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much, it is heartwarming to know that my objective was fulfilled with this picture, I wanted to make it simple while adding enough detail for the viewer's eyes to wander a bit into the scene. Having only a single element in the picture with color is a mark of this series of drawings I am doing . I didn't see the flower as a butterfly, but now that you've mentioned it, it can be seen as one if you look from a certain distance or just for a glance.

Answering your question, I have an Uni Posca .7mm white ink pen for the fine lines and an old flask of white ink whose brand label went out long ago. What I like about the Posca pen is that it isn't ballpoint, the paint kind of flows through a very thin plastic tube that opens a bit when you pressure it against the paper, it works well over pencils but from time to time you have to stop and clean the nib before continuing to use it .

Seeing the work you hav been doing with the white ink has got me wanting to try. I bought some last weekend and will have to do some experiments.

Thanks, white ink on recycled paper is revealing to be a very fun combo, the natural darker tone this kind of paper has enhances a lot both the graphite pencil and the white ink plus it gives that vintage feeling that some aged pictures have .

I look forward for what you'll be creating .

I am really glad you enjoyed the surprise , when I saw that your birthday was coming I knew I had to do something. I couldn't simply let such a special day for one of my favorite artists pass out in blank . Warms my heart to know you loved this humble drawing this much , I tried to make her look like your character though I am not sure if I succeeded .

I was going to tell you earlier that I was drawing this for you and now I am happy that I kept it as a secret, it would definitely ruin the surprise . I can definitely figure out a way to send it to you, been sending letters to UK a way too often (sadly I couldn't find a way to send myself yet ). The drawing is 100% yours and we'll make it travel from here to your inspiration wall .

I'll send you a note so we can talk about the details . Last but not least important, I truly hope you had a lovely day. Happy birthday!!!
