I really admire the original concept behind this armor. Very well done and fitting for any MandalorianΒ

I have been looking over several pics of your armor, and I must say sir. Epic job!! I'm working on my own Mando kit and it is no where near as awesome as yours. Tho I am toying with the idea of wearing a trench coat either over the plates, or have them set into the jacket.
I know some Mandos paint their armor for certain significance, are you honoring your father, or do you just like red? I went with Black with silver highlights, black stands for Justice, but I think I did it to better hide in the shadows, as my Mando is a former Sith Assassin.
The fangs are cool, and very unique. I say bravo to that. As well as the awesome sauce jet pack built into the back plate. I hope your cape is flame retardant!
and if you are looking for another cool gun, I have been playing with the new Nerf Rough Cut and I think it is a decent gun for Mandos.
Keep up the awesome! I hope to see more pics in the future.

First of all, thanks for the compliments, glad you enjoy my stuff! ^^
Secondly, have you looked into the Mandalorian Mercenaries Costume Club at all? they're the ones who really helped me get my kit off the ground, and they'll be full of good ideas and constructive criticism to get your kit looking as close to movie-quality as possible. I've seen a couple trench coated mandos, I almost did one for this kit, actually! You're much better off just wearing the coat loosely over your armor, but make sure to leave the chest open a bit so we can see your armor!
There's a big character backstory why the armor is red, and believe me, it has nothing to do with honering fathers, at least not this particular incarnation of this character, haha. The choice of red originally stemmed from it being my favorite color, but I did go in and come up with an entire plot and history behind the armor itself.
I've seen a couple black and silver kits, it's certainly a color combo I enjoy! I might do one myself in the future.
Thank you sir, I'm admittedly a shameless sucker for fang compliments. I was told left and right they might not come out looking good, but enough determination (and spot putty) enabled me to get them looking great! And the idea is that all my fabric is flame retardant, haha. That being said, I should go in and weather my soft parts a bit, especially the scarf. It's too pristine.
I've been eyeballing the rough cut myself to be honest, it has that sawed off vibe to it. I've got plenty of gun projects I'm working on right now, and I'm in no rush for another mando sidearm any time soon. I think my next madno wepaon project is going to be a combination of Β a vibrolance with an integrated blaster.
And stick around boss, there will be more pics to come!

awesome sauce. I was thinking after I wrote that comment, I know a bunch of people who do leather work. I may talk to them about making a 2 piece leather vest and mold my plates into it. One down side to putting a generic kit under a coat is the shoulder plates. They would get jammed up something fierce. Solution! A sleeveless coat with larger arm holes!!
I did have a plan to join the MM, but they require that you go to x# of conventions, and certain ones are a must if you wish to hold on to your membership (for example, up here it would be FaneXpo, and I dislike that company so much I refuse to give them money anymore). Now I do go to conventions, but I go as a vendor, and my Mando is completely different from who I really am. Dr. Zoltar Mulvrais' Arcane Laboratories is run by a Mad Scientist / Super Villain.

Sleeveless is definitely a good idea, but you could always put any shoulder pieces on the outermost layer ofΒ fabric

also true, and something I did think of. But I may want to keep the coat clean so I can use it else where as well.

Ok, but just saying, having a tattered up coat would add some personality to it, especially if used for costumes involved in combat. I need to tatter up my own soft parts a bit more now that I mention it XD

One of my personal flaws is that I like my stuff shiny. I take care of my equipment, and keep it looking new. If my coat were to get torn up in a fight, I would go get a new one. Battle damaged is cool, and great for most cosplay. I just prefer pristine to dirty.

Thanks so much ner'vod! In all honesty I'm probably going to continue tinkering and adding to this kit for years to come, it's not something you simply finish, haha! I actually just sent that application in on Tuesday, still waiting to hear back from them. And good luck to you when you start getting your stuff finished!

Ba'gedet'ye, ner vod! I can see that being the way that I'll go with it as well, can't just leave it alone, even if it was doing something like kitting it out for specific jobs, y'know?Β
I've got my fingers crossed for you on that one, vod. I don't see why there'd be any issues, given your work, but I couldn't say, given that I haven't been through the process myself. Oya!
And thank you! Much appreciated!

The only thing I think they'd knock me for are slight spacing issues, which are easy enough to fix. I just need to hear back from them!

Especially the battle worn look, I mean, it looks so realistic

Thanks so much! Getting the battle damaged look was never wracking at first, since I worked so hard to get everything pretty and then I had to go scratch it up. It turned out being really fun though, and it looks OS much better with all the scratches, less like a costume and more like armor.

One question, what did you use for the tusks on the bottom of your helmet and how did you get them to stay on? Β Okay so that was two questions.

Argnarock In reply to MandalorianKnight [2013-08-01 00:34:51 +0000 UTC]
Ah, my fangs! I love my fangs so much, to be honest I'm glad someone finally asked about them! The fangs are actually layered pieces of pvc sheet, I think they're each 3 layers 3 mm pvc sheet. The bottom layer actually extends a bit into the helmet and attaches onto the back of the visor. I secured them in with some glue and epoxy, and smoothed the seams over with some spot putty and a bit of sanding.

I'm a big fan of the Mandalorians, and I wish I could pull something off like this but your costume looks really nice for still having to work some things out. Keep it up and good luck on getting membership into the group
