Reminds me of a story my dad told me about when he was a kid. He was at a church gathering with his parents and he saw some beverages on a table. He thought one of them was cola and took a drink of itbut it was wine and he was really surprised and disgusted and spat it out.

I hope these 'serious repercussions' just involve angry/defensive flamingos? As the other possibility I'm thinking of would give people serious feels...

Bet Binti's gonna feel a bit "salty" about that experience.

I don't know if salty is quite the word for it. If I recall correctly, the lakes that flamingos spend time in is alkaline, not a very pleasant tasting water, as the look on his face would suggest. LOL.

Ah, okay then XD
She'll still probably be salty after that experience, I'm sure.

Considering all the dialogue has been done digitally, the sound effects don't stand out ... much.

Uh ... I don't know? The "cough" sound effects sorta stand out a little because of their repetition in-frame - sure, they are at different angles and skews but my OCD notes that the glyphs are otherwise identical. Not necessarily a bad thing, but you know that if you drew them by hand there would be more variations between each one.
It doesn't ruin the panel or anything.

If the lake is pink and full of pink birds. Then it's salty and probably tastes bad.

At first I thought that was lightning in the 4th panel, and then she choked on water. But then I read your comment, and it made much more sense. LOL
No wonder the lightning looked odd, it was just white text of Binti expressing of how horrible salty water is. XD

Lol yeah.
Pink lakes. I've seen them before in nature documentaries. The shrimp and bacteria in the water makes it nearly impossible to drink. The flamingos eat the shrimp and turn pink as a result. Weird, but brilliant nature.
I love how in depth the author goes into nature research to make this universe more believable.

Yes, I agree, I love how they made everything correct by nature, as it'd be in real life, except as if the animals were able to social and talk between each other.
I just love it. And oooh, the flamingos turn pink because of shrimp? That's interesting, I used to think that if some flamingos were pale, it was because they weren't fed well enough. Or now, it could be because they weren't eating shrimp, hahah. ^^
