Je vais manquer d'originalité : c'est magnifique !
Par certains aspects, ça me fait un peu penser à la double scène de la charge dans le Niebelungen de Carl Otto Czeschka.

This is just too beautiful... i think the illuminated manuscript has been underrated and put into the sidelines of western art... i think it should have a big revival... it's a shame not too much attention is given to sich a unique and fantstic art.

The composition reminds me a bit The Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello...

That's amazing how much detail you fit into that scene. The shading is fantastic, not overdone but enough to give you the right impression. Or something. I'm not the best on commenting on art other than, 'holy cow, this is incredible and I love it.'

Oh thanks I believe I forgot the spurs ! Important détail: I must correct soon !
For the other details it's an artistic vision not an exactly archeological reconstitution of medieval tournament like the medieval illumination. I don't have Oakeshotte's typology but this dagger has probably existed because the knights had arms inspired or influenced by the Saracens style at the Crusades.

WOW. Insta-fav!
When I first saw this, I thought to myself, "I don't remember seeing that scene in the Maciejowski Bible. I wonder how she isolated that... " I'm not as familiar with the Manesse Codex as I am with the Misspronounski Bible, but the style is much more beautiful and refined than it is in what I recall of the Codex.
I'm going to have to do something like this from Froissart's Chronicles! (from the version with the poorer watercolors, of course! XD)
Questions!!! (I hope you don't mind)
-All these knights (what's the plural of Ritter? my German is nonexistant) and not a single pair of spurs among them. Any particular reason?
-You've shown the reverse side of two shields and both are painted. Not only are they painted, but they match the fabric on the underside of their horse's barding! I'm much more a 15th century person, so I'm completely ignorant here. Do we actually have references for this? =O If not, that's a very clever and logical detail that fits with what we know about the knightly class's feelings about display.
-The sword you painted... or is it a dagger that's belted like a sword? Tell me about it. I don't have Oakeshotte's typology in front of me, but I don't remember that style of cross or pommel belonging to the 13th century.
And finally... I hesitate to ask, but did you actually paint that by hand on that piece of parchment? 0_0 If you did... I dunno, I guess I'll be speachless.
This is simply amazing.
