This is my final project for this school year, seeing as it was our last day of school 2 days ago. This painting is done in a new style that we were learning, using solid strokes without blending them. It is very fun to do but in some areas hard because you have to be a lot more percise in your color and tone choices, and placement. I picked this subject, because he makes me smile a lot. He looks so freakin' happy playing that drum, and he reminds me of a lady I've met a few times who is also an african drummer, and just so in love with the beat, the music, and the way it makes people move and feel. I had a blast painting this, and I spent only a week and a half on it. It is done in acrylics like all of my other paintings, and measures 15" by 20". Fantastic work! It does look like a photograph from a distance but close up of course each area of colour is quite distinct - best of both worlds! I like everything about it and think it is a testament to your spirit as well as your very impressive skills.

i love this painting... the expression on the drummer's face, the vivid bright colors that seem to be radiating from the drum and backround, and especially the blending scheme you used that makes it look so pleasent and soft yet realistic.
to tell you the truth though, not to be unkind but his left hand does not sit right with me. it seems like it may be bulged out a bit on the pinky side and the fingers a bit short or something.
anyway BEautiful painting and keep up wonderful work!

Really? I went to belize too! I loved the people I met there and there were some great musicians there! I also got to hold a very close raccoon relative while I was there. I forget what they are called, but the look like a raccoon but skinnier and a longer snout and it starts with a C
