Description This is my first full painting at my school. I just started painting two weeks ago there (I moved up from drawings! YAY!) <^_^> I had one painting that I did before this, but it was more of a quick study to get me used to the technique and colors. It was only a monochromatic and I didn't finish it fully. So THIS is my first full painting. It is in acrylic, it took me a week and a half, and its of onions in a pot. <^-^> I'm quite pleased with it. Matching colors and tones it a lot harder than I thought, and so is blending. But painting is SOOOOOO much more fun than pencil work. Hopefully I'll start getting much better soon. WEEEEE!

There's a thin line between someone who can paint an image and someone who can paint a bloody realistic looking one.
How did you make the onion skin actually look crispy. I always had trouble with texture.....hmmm

Great job though, definately keep painting

Thank you! I just pay close attention to detail (I'm a bit OCD and maticulous) I have trouble leaving things be.

(Sorry for the LATE reply. For personal reasons, I haven't been on Deviant Art in Months)

No, actually the students are very good. Some at different levels, but all very capable. Most of that is due to the training. You can actually check it out at [link]

Yes, the changes are huge. Most art schools don't teach what mine does, this school is very specialized. I am actually begining my 3rd year.

It is no problem. I am used to people who aren't as familiar with english on DA. Where are you from? What's your native language?

i know its no problem, cause i get along somehow. but some times its frustrating not to be able to write exactly what i want, and search for easyer words....makes me feeling like a moron!

Thank you very much. That one isn't very big. It is about 9"by11" or something like that. But it actually isn't oils, it is acrylic.

Anna-Maija [2006-09-15 21:39:39 +0000 UTC]

hey! May I ask you, how are you using the acrylics? You are using them like oil colours, but is there a special technique? My question might seem quite stupid, but I'm just astonished by your work, and when I'm working with acrylics it's really far from there..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bobtheraccoon In reply to Anna-Maija [2006-09-19 16:25:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have had a lot of technique training in acrilics, but there are two things that I can tell you easily through typing that can help you a lot. The first, is to use a wet Pallete. I have a Wet Pallete instruction on how to make and use one in my gallery. It will keep the colors you mix wet while you are painting, making it MUCH easier to work with. The next is dry-brushing. Dry brushing is a technique used to blend two colors together for example, a darker color next to a lighter color. What you do, is you get the lighter color on your brush and then use a paper towel to whipe off the paint. When you do, little bitts of paint will still be stuck in some of the hairs of the brush. Then you use your "dry brush" to paint the lighter color ino the darker. Because of the little amount of paint you will get a transparent layer, that apears to make a seamless transition into the darker color. Good luck with these tips.
