Description This is an acrylic painting, the 4th in my art school. It took about 3 1/2 weeks. It is actually the last and favourite peice of the year. I'm not sure is I like this photo of it though, I might make a better one and post it later, but this will do for now. I hope that you all injoy, this one was a very hard one with a lot of trouble spots. Not to mention, painted from a bad reference, so I got to invent a lot of colors for these subjects.

lol, yes indeed. it looks more intimidating than it is though. you just have to think of it as tones and colors instead of a see through object.

Well thank you! Most of what I do I learn in my training of traditional techniques at a school called Gemini. [link] You could do this kind of thing, it just takes a LOT of work and some good training to learn the little secrets and tools. I'm slowly working on writing a book on these techniques, but it is going to take a while for that to finish. .. al long while... LOL Um, I don't know of many other places that have much information. And as far as most art schools in america... they don't really teach it either. I have a few pointers her and there in my gallery and comments, like my wet pallet demo. I'm planing on doing a lot more... but finding the time proves difficult.

just curious...how did you achieve such great blending with your acryllics (besides a lot of talent)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bobtheraccoon In reply to nadirah3 [2006-02-18 20:34:36 +0000 UTC]

There are a couple of things that most people don't know to do with acrylics. One, is to use a wet pallet (You can buy one or make your own with cafeteria trays, wet paper towels and silicon coated baking paper). A wet pallet will keep your colors on the pallet from drying out as you paint, so that you don't have to keep re-mixing your colors. The second thing, is to "dry brush". Say for example you have a dark color next to a light color and you want to blend the light to the dark. Dry brushing is when you take the lighter color on your brush, and you wipe off the paint with a paper towel. The paper towel will wipe off most of the paint, but leave some paint on some of your bristles. Then, when you paint where the two colors meet. You will blend them by kind of scrubbing on a translucent layer. You might want to practice dry brushing with the darker color and the lighter color, or even a middle tone between the two. You will get different results. So, a wet pallet, and dry brshing.
