Jedi Master X2 is the cloned son of Jedi Knight Falon Grey, a Jedi Knight from the Clone Wars. X2 and his brother X1 were bred as prototypes for a potential army of Force Sensitive Clone Troopers. However the extraordinary costs of producing so much as two led to the Kaminoans to discontinue the efforts. X1 and X2 were relegated to be part of the regular Clone Army as ordinary soldiers. However their force sensitivity led them to become much more independent and resistant to the traditional mental conditioning of the standard clone troopers. This led them to both become Captains by the time the Clone Wars broke out. X1 and X2 were placed under the tutelage of Jedi Master Ferroda, a Pantoran Jedi Master and Republic General. The brothers served under Ferroda throughout much of the war, even participating in the Battle of Coruscant. X2 came face to face with General Grievous even and managed to narrowly escape this encounter. After the Battle of Coruscant, Ferroda, X1, and X2 were deployed to Cato Neimodia to try and capture a mechno-chair used by Viceroy Nute Gunray. They managed to successfully capture the chair but at that moment, Order 66 was issued.

X1 obediently complied, fighting Ferroda along with most of his fellow Clones but X2 refused and stayed away. When Ferroda wounded X1, X2 stepped in and, in a rage, murdered Ferroda. Murdering Ferroda haunted X2 and eventually led him to abandon the newly formed Empire. He fled to Dantooine where he happened a chance encounter with his "father," Jedi Knight Falon Grey. Their reunion was brief however as the Empire was right on their heels, with X1 leading the charge in an effort to kill Fallon as part of the Great Jedi Purge. Falon had recruited a militia to resist the Empire, with X2 joining in the resistance. Unfortunately it was all for naught as X1 proceeded to murder Falon Grey and wound X2. X2 managed to escape however, taking Falon's lightsaber with him.

For a few years, X2 lived under the alias "Xavier Grey" and lived as a lonely farmer on Dantooine. Eventually however, he was approached by Jedi Knight Rahm Kota to help resist the Empire. He proceeded to form the Grey Cell, his first recruit was the Bounty Huntress Shara who would become his second in command. Together along with a few other Rebels, Grey Cell operated out of Dantooine, making trouble for the Empire and helping its citizens to carry out their lives with less Imperial tyranny on their backs. They continued their operations until 2 BBY when they learned of the Corellian Treaty and were recalled by Rahm to help form a more unified and cohesive Rebellion. There X2 met the Sith Assassin turned Jedi Knight and Rebel Leader, Galen Marek.

X2 was tasked to create Grey Squadron, a team of talented pilots and special ops forces. Grey Squadron quickly proved itself as it helped the Rebellion against the Empire. In Year Zero, most of Grey Squadron was temporarily reassigned to Red Squadron for the Battle of Yavin, X2 and Shara remaining planetside to assist with the emergency evacuation while the battle raged in orbit. Sadly all of the Grey Squadron pilots that had joined Red Squadron would be killed during the battle, forcing X2 to rebuild the squadron from scratch. Fortunately he didn't have to work too hard to recruit as the Rebels' success at the Battle of Yavin resulted in a surge of people volunteering to join the Rebellion.

X2 served the Rebellion throughout the Galactic Civil War, participating in the Battle of Hoth and the Battle of Endor. During some of these battles, X2 encountered his brother, X1, who had remained fanatically loyal to the Empire. After Endor, X2 realized his brother had been training himself in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force and asked Rahm Kota to train him in the Jedi Arts. Rahm agreed and using his father's lightsaber, X2's training began. X2 proved a fast learner, progressing quickly due in no small part to having observed Luke, Galen, and Maris Brood, the Rebellion's own Jedi, on numerous occasions but would not be named a Jedi Knight until several years later.

After the Battle of Jakku, X2 participated in the liberation of Cloud City where he learned that his brother, X1, was still alive and looking to rebuild the Empire but with himself on the throne. X2 knew he had to do something, especially after Luke Skywalker was captured by X1's forces. X1 had captured Skywalker with the intent of cloning him and creating an army of Dark Jedi. With the aid of the New Republic, X2 tracked Skywalker to Mustafar where he managed to rescue Skywalker and then proceeded to confront X1. The brothers fought viciously over the lava rivers of Mustafar, but X2 finally emerged the victor when X1 attempted to impale X2 from behind with his lightsaber but X2 dodged, causing X1 to run himself through with his own lightsaber. X2's fight with his brother was deemed his Great Trial by Luke and the other Jedi, naming X2 a Jedi Knight.

X2's life after Mustafar quieted down to some degree. He and Shara were married and went on to have two children, a daughter named Ferroda and a son named Xavier. While Ferroda was trained by Maris Brood, Xavier was trained by his father. Ferroda became one of the Jedi Order's best healers while Xavier showed a promising future as a Jedi Ace. However Xavier's destiny would not be with the Jedi Order as tragedy struck the family in 24 ABY during the Droid Blockade of Cato Neimodia. Despite winning the battle, Shara was mortally wounded, her death sending Xavier into a Dark Side induced rage which led to his losing his left hand to Jaina Solo. Filled with grief and unsure of his future, Xavier left the Jedi Order.

By 28 ABY, X2 had become a candidate for the Jedi High Council but had opted to remain as an advisor. That same year, the Shadow War broke out, leading to the deaths of several Jedi, including Master Kota. After the Jedi settled in on the hidden Jedi Temple on Ossus, X2 was appointed to the Jedi Council to fill Kota's role as the Jedi Temple Master, overseeing the Jedi Temple Guard. He eventually took on the Kaleesh Padawan, Ronderu laj Sheelal, Rahm's Padawan at the time of his death, as his own.

As a Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War Veteran, X2 is well versed in warfare and is one of the few Jedi to still carry a blaster with him. As a result of the Kaminoans' using the accelerated aging on him, X2 is actually much older than he appears. X2, having been raised and trained along with the Fett Clones on Kamino, is fluent in the Mandalorian language and tradition, along with being a skilled pilot and marksman. He owns a full suit of Phase-II Clone Trooper Armor which he customized in grey markings and wears into battle.

While he technically is still in command of Grey Squadron, he has made allowances for his son, Xavier, to lead the Squadron in his absence. With the Shadow Wars having broken out, X2 felt someone else needed to take the lead and tapped Jedi Knight Jaina Solo to lead the Squadron as well as to keep an eye on Xavier. With the Shadow War raging, X2 has opted to remain off the battlefield when possible but has willingly ventured into combat situations on a few occasions such as during the Thule Campaign where he temporarily retook command of Grey Squadron.

While chronologically he was born in 32 BBY, he was matured to the age of 20 by the time the Clone Wars broke out, at which point the Kaminoans had given him an anti-aging serum which overcompensated the aging gene and caused him to mature at half the rate as normal humans. This, combined with a strong dedication to the Light Side of the Force, has gifted X2 with a youthful vitality and appearance. Physically he looks no older than a man in his early-to-mid forties. Additionally he received several special implants from the Kaminoans such as bacta processing implants and alcoholic metabolizers, the former making his body more receptive to bacta treatments, and the latter drastically heightening his alcohol tolerance. X2 has used his metabolizers to his advantage on several occasions in the past, by challenging uncooperative informants to a drinking competition and subsequently winning without feeling the slightest bit tipsy...although his aim with a blaster does suffer slightly as a result.
