Description This aircraft concept was developpend along the lines of previous "peanut shaped" designs already created, but was subsequently modified to fit in an unfinished comissioned project now regrettably shelved.
More to come of this transonic model with supersonic propeller blades. Note the "engine forward of propeller disk" concept with clean air intake and packed armament. The forward end of the right-wing tip fuel tank houses a rudimentary Infrared seeker to detect hot enemy aircraft against the cold sky.
The paired guns in tail are housed in a remote-controlled turret manned by the sole pilot using a rear-viewing sighting periscope device protruding from the cabin roof.
The big insect-like body houses not only the pressurized crew cabin and rear armament; also the big main fuel tanks and the main landing gear wheels. (Remember that the turboprop of the late forties are not particularly fuel-efficient). Wings and wing tips also houses fuel. This configuration allows for long endurance patrol flights.
If developped as a bomber, clearly the big main body must have inside an enclosed bomb bay.

I understand that ive put in the science behind how this aircraft flys but, will it evee work irl?

I am reminded of a Dutch aircraft, the De Schelde S.21, it was a pusher aircraft. This single seat fighter had a rear firing motor-cannon, wing guns and a flexible forward firing cannon. To use the nose gun the pilot turned on an autopilot. The only plane that I know of having a fuselage mounted propeller was the Gallaudet D-1 and D-4 built for the U.S. Navy in 1917.Β Sorry about the length of this message.

Gotta say I like your designs.
Especially when there isnΒ΄t a Swastika on them for a change.

I think the front might bow down because there is to nail in the front. Look at the XP-55.

Weird design, but very creative. It would be difficult to say if it's coming or going at first glance.

Amazing concept.

This is the most unique piece of what-if aviation I've seen in a good long time. A very radical concept and splendid execution! Excellent work!

Peanut shaped plane? Interesting aircraft. Reminds me of a lot of strange concepts of WW2.

Reminds me of a paper plan created by...um...Mercedes Benz...? late in WW II?

Can't remember why putting the propeller disk in the middle of the air-frame appealed to them. Other than when it's at the front it gets in the way and when it's at the back it causes different types of problems.

Much cheers to you and yours!

Have in mind the "Area Rule" and the first transonic attempts in the U.S. using German technology acquired after WWII. Consider also the curved high speed propeller blades to enter briefly the supersonic rΓͺgime on the tips... Is it a contraption?

Sorry, I was just mentioning that I'd seen such a "Mid mounted" propeller scheme some where before. *bows*

*Nods* Yeah, I've read the whole "Allies inherited a war chest of goodies after the dust settled" lines and understand that a lot of what had been in development was both advanced and radical.

Though it should also be remembered that the French and British weren't slouches when it came to investigating the various ways to build flying machines.

As always I find your concepts both intriguing and amazing.

Much cheers to you and yours!

Wow, this one's really innovative in layout/design. I'd love to see what it looks like when it lands!?

I spent the first half a minute or so looking at it the wrong way

I don't think the body looks that spacious for such a large fighter though, room for bombs? I dunno.
Still, a highly original concept and very well executed!

At first I couldn't tell which way it was flying. Probably because I noticed it didn't have any vertical tail surfaces. A pretty unique design.

ebarr [2010-11-10 09:44:38 +0000 UTC]

Without vertical control surfaces I would guess it would fall foul of the same stability problems the flying wings of the forties, and periscope and rear gun arrangement sound like something that might sound good on paper and be removed in the field.

Still it is a very good picture.

CUTANGUS In reply to ebarr [2010-11-11 22:33:44 +0000 UTC]

Ja, ja, Yes, pilot must engage an autopilot to be capable of fight back to a pursuing aircraft using the tail turret!

Janus-Mirithriall [2010-11-10 08:35:32 +0000 UTC]

That "periscope" would have to be wide angle and targeting would be a pain in the buttocks if you're trying to evade an attacker and shoot back.

It's a neat design.

ttvortex [2010-11-10 07:27:12 +0000 UTC]

Beautiful concept. My only concern (if I may) would be the weight balance.
It seems that center of weight is very far from the aerodynamic center.
