Description The idea behind this concept is that Soviets try to deploy such V.T.O.L. (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft in submarines around U.S. air bases in the Pacific Islands, as Guam, to inercept American heavy-loaded strategic bombers still at low altitude. To acomplish this mission, the submarine carriers must gain surface before extracting the load of eight interceptors from his pressure tubes, in a way not very different as the Regulus missile was deployed. After launch, the submatine must wait submerged the return of the remaining aircrafts, or abandon them completely. The mission profile is very improbable, as U.S. sea patrols must locate the big submarines with ease and sunk it.

i understand how this thing would take off, but how in the shit would it fucking land, positioning this thing after going into the vertical to land must have been a HUUUUUGE bitch! and maintaining steady flight on the descent to land had to be a bigger pain, the pilot would have to be on POINT the entire time!

Another one of those Ideas that fits perfectly in the wild and woolly days of the fifties. It seems that any idea a designer could come up with was given a chance to fly. ( or crash on landing 'cause the pilot couldn't see out the back of the aircraft.)
A lot of designs were simply limited by the technology available at the time. without some form of rear view camera, autopilot assist or computer controls this type aircraft was too tricky t fly.

The truly insane thought is that with modern electronics and flight controls, this aircraft is well within the technological limits of today. ( see Flying wing for an example)

I think now that the history is very improbable in late fifties. Maybe possible in late forties, though. In the fifties the Soviets have used some kind of guided anti-aircraft missile. They cannot rely on pilots that can defeat to the enemy territory instead of fight in a near-suicidal, hard-to-return mission like these already described.

Well, the Japanese did develop a submarine capable of carrying two seaplanes in a small cylindrical hangar attached to the deck of the submarine during WWII, but it never went into action as far as I know.

You catch me! I do not know German nor Russian languages!
Please, If you know the right text, send me a message. It must read "kerosene tank", "beware of propeller disk", "Warning" and similar stencils.
