Description

Pokedexxy Challenge All paper cuts
12/2015

Anyone who follows my tumblr will have seen that in December I decided to take a shot at the Pokedexxy challenge  after (almost) succeeding at my October challenge.
I think this time I actually managed to get all the days done, and most of them up on time (with a few exceptions).

Again I really enjoyed the project, it gave me something fun to warm up on at the start of the day, and a handful have sold over Etsy.
It was pretty hard to choose which pokemon to pick for which days, and admittedly quite a lot of days I used Pokemon that I have never played, but I just love the design.

To see which are still for sale you can check out my Etsy or drop me a message. As they were done for fun, and none are too complex they fall into my cheapest range of paper cuts I do.

RogueMudblood [2016-03-09 17:46:34 +0000 UTC]

This is simply astonishing! The amount of effort put forth for each of these characters' representations is incredible, and for someone familiar with them, the characters are completely recognizable. (My child can name each of them without having to look through the chart in the description; I'm afraid I'm limited to being able to name the ones from the few episodes I've seen and from Smash Brothers Melee (which my little one enjoys skunking me at). )

Number eleven appears to be Sandile (to me) - that one I know from the plush toy. Otherwise, I'm pretty well limited to Pichu, Lucario, Mew, Snivy (plush, again)  and Xerneas - on the game cover of Pokemon X, so a little hard not to know that one.

You did a beautiful job with these pieces - I can only imagine how long it must have taken to carve the paper out each day for the individual characters.

daegfire In reply to RogueMudblood [2016-03-13 17:43:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the message. I'm glad that they are so distinct and recognizabe. There are soooo many pokemon that everyone is excused from knowing them all. I have almost a complete blind spot for generation 3 myself XP

You message made me notice i didnt finish off the list of which pokemon they are! I wrote the list when it was quiet at my part time job, and didnt have the pictures in front of me so couldn't remember all the pokemon i used XP I've updated the list now with all the names filled in haha.

Looks great! And just in time for the 20th Anniversary of Pokemon, too.
It almost makes me want to be a fan so I can be even more excited over the completion of this project. (Too bad I was never a fan of Pokemon... ) But I want to congratulate you for completing this one. The whole series looks great and looks downright impressive! I also love the "Poke-ball" background, too. It's a very nice touch!

Oh, I know enough about it to know what's going on.
I just can't tell one of these critters from another, that's all!

... either way, it's a nice way to present them.

I didn't want to upload them all separately, but I've got my top six that I'm gonna upload again together.

... Actually just got a email telling me this will be a DD tomorrow! Nice surprise! (Didn't know they had started emailing about DD's either) now I have time to worry about spelling mistakes XP

Hey... I support your decision! It looks a lot better together.

And congratulations! A Daily Deviation! That's so very cool. I think you totally deserved it! (And no, I did -not- know that they started e-mailing people about DD's. I've never gotten an e-mail from anyone... ) If you want... I can check through the spelling mistakes for you?

daegfire In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2016-03-25 21:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Must be a new thing!
thanks for the offer, I would have taken you up but I got my other half to check it befor you replied (and WAY before I replied to this XP).
90% of the time I'm past caring with my spelling. It's only when I know something is gonna be seen by possible trolls that I try harder.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to daegfire [2016-03-26 00:01:05 +0000 UTC]

It's gotta be a new thing...

Hey, at least you've got someone else to check it for you. That's even better!
I don't know... spelling has been something that I try to stick to. There's a part of the family that's a little bit dyslexic, you see. So I think we over-compensate when it comes to spelling to make sure we don't make mistakes (being in a profession where misspellings would impede on communication also doesn't help.) But to each their own, you know. If it works out for you, it just works!

daegfire In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2016-04-28 23:49:42 +0000 UTC]

I am Dyslexic, and its seemes to bother other people more then it bothers me nowadays.
It look me a long time to get to the point i am at now, I was 16 before i could spell the word Blue!! So i'm kinda proud of myself. I had teachers that told my mum i'd never be able to write, but now i have a MA!

I do worry that people online think i'm a fool because i strugle to tell the right spelling from the wrong. But I feel that i spent too much of my life being hung up on it already, i don't want to stress out about my spelling when i want to relax. I try, but not so much that i start panicing.
whenever i do i think of what my Masters tutor told me When aske how much my miss spellings matered:
"Content i much more imporant then spelling"

Tho in your work. being correct is a must!!  haha

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to daegfire [2016-04-29 01:01:08 +0000 UTC]

We are expected to have good spelling... but we usually have the most God-awful hand-writing to go with it! There's even a real word for "bad doctor's handwriting". It's called "Griffonage". Sometimes it makes you wonder how important it is to spell things right when no one can read your writing?

But that being said... I completely agree with you and your tutor. "Content is more more important than spelling." A lot of the times, spelling can be fixed through a quick run through a spell-checker. And most of the time people can accept some mistakes as typo. That's the advantage of the electronic age, so to say. So it's not really a prerequisite. You've made it in terms of life and education. And that's what matters at the end of the day.

So... keep your chin up and don't let folks drag you down. You're doing great as it is already.

I think bad handwriting goes along with being an Archaeologist too if my bosses are anything to go by!! Griffonage. I'll have to try and commit that word to memory.
My hadwriting is actually pretty neat . Perhaps as long as you have one you can get away without the other.
Neat handwriting to make up for bad spelling
Illegible but completly perfect grammatically

Sadly DA doesn't spell check for me. Its the only website i use that desn't tell me when something is spelt wrong. Even with spell check it can be hard sometimes, 3 different options with onely 1 letter difference between them all, i just guess haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to daegfire [2016-04-29 16:33:42 +0000 UTC]

I can't speak for the archaeologists... but I do know that a couple of my professors also have horrendous handwriting. It's a professional disease and not just the fault of physicians. I think there's only so much humans can do with language. If we can write well... spelling probably suffers. And if we can spell well... the actual handwriting is probably atrocious. It's just us being very, very human!

I find that dA does some spell check for me. I am not sure why this is so. But I do know that it conforms only to American spelling. I am not sure why this is so. Maybe there are some settings you can rummage through on your computer to see that might be available to you. But at the end of the day... It's just spelling. The world can think whatever it likes.
