Description Somewhat inspired by Stargate and Egyptian motives. This was a gift to my aunt, who modeled for the photo.

Interestingly, this was built following the reverse of the engineering dogma - "design, then take away stuff until there's nothing left to take away". The piece started as just a wire base that had the loop for a centerpiece. Since it already had a shape that looked similar to certain Egyptian designs (winged women - at least some of them were depictions of Isis, if I'm not mistaken, hence one part of the name of the piece), I decided to add an ankh to it. The problem was, the ankh looked rather lonely on its own. I figured a circular shape would work nicely as a background, and, after searching through my parts box, found a piece that made me jump and go, "OMG, it's Stargate!". Hence, the second part of the name.

The chainmail drapes came next, as a way to balance the proportions - the band looked too narrow compared to the centerpiece. I had to redo them several times - I kept losing count of the rings, and the drapes came out asymmetrical because of that.

But what really surprised me was how it looked on the model. By some coincidence, it fit perfectly with her body, resting in the dip on her collarbone. That's where the previously overlooked power of the piece came into light: it caught the eye, and then the shape of the centerpiece and the drapes directed the gaze downwards. That, combined with the ankh, and symbolic feminine forms - the down-pointing triangle and the circle - made the necklace very erotic.

Now that I've updated the description, I think I should try to make something as minimalistic as possible. I already have the idea.

18ga and 20ga stainless steel, pre-fab steel washer. Don't recall the measurements. Completed between Dec 2009 - Jan 2010.

this is a truly unique chain maille piece. you have a gift for taking the techniques used by others and giving them a twist to make something utterly original.

Yep, didn't discover most of it's effect until I put it on the model. See the updated description.

I like the coiled ring under the cross. It's interesting.
Nicely done piece.

That ring was actually a milled steel washer. The wire wrapping covered the gap in it, and also (a bit unintentionally) made it look more like the Stargate.

Thanks!
