Description Okay. Finally saw one too many pictures depicting this piece of shit as if he's fit to blacken Dib's boots with a ten foot pole.

I know I'm probably the only person who ever does this, but I will sleep more soundly tonight knowing that a search on "dwicky" and any combination of the words "slimy, two-faced, backstabbing, traitor rat bastard" will actually return something now.

Ahhhhhh...

yeah, i gotta agree with you; dwicky is an asshole. <_<

i had heard of dadr before i saw the episode, so i was expecting dib and dwicky to make up or something before the end of the episode, but he just flies off. AND TAKES THE CAMERA!!! >_< that had to be the most aggravating scene of all. <_< dib SO deserved that footage.

and he's not that great of a school counselor if he tricks kids like that; dib's probably been scarred with adult trust issues now. i don't see why people would pair them together; it wouldn't make any sense (not that any IZ pairings actually DO make sense, but still....) and they don't even look cute together (pedophedalic couples tend not to <_< ). i've never read any dadr fanfics, though (love makes the show boring, so i don't read romance fics), so i don't know if people can make it sound good or not. eh, but i don't know if i believe that anyone can actually make that pairing work.

eh, whatever. point the of the post: you are correct. dwicky sucks. be proud you are the first to acknowledge it in fanart.

Thank you, thank you very much!

Oh I am. Believe me, I AM.

Adult trust issues? You're not kidding.

That whole episode is one of the worst examples of writing I've ever seen. Because it was written from Dib's viewpoint, he should have achieved something, anything... but when the episode ends he's even worse off than he was at the beginning. An audience will feel frustrated when they see that happening... or at least they would if it victimized anybody other than DIB.

And so indiscriminate is this craving for romance romance romance that they'll take even the slimiest, lowest, most selfish and opportunistic asshole there is, turn a completely blind eye to what happened in the actual show, and even overlook Dib's age.

Thanks again.

That is possible, quite possible!

Unfortunately, once the ball got rolling, hating Dib became an end in itself with many viewers. When one says something ironically or indirectly, one always risks being taken literally. For example, take this: [link]

I intended my comment as a joke (all the things people keep saying about Dib apply at least as well to Gir) but the person took me straight.

For the record, I don't hate Gir but neither can I figure out why he's so wildly popular.

"..never really.. worked"? Speak for yourself!

You know, I think I know why they did that; you know, make the episode from Dib's point of view and leaving him worse off than he was before.. Because Dib is Jhonen's favorite character, and is voted America's least favorite IZ character... And so I was thinking maybe they made that episode to make you sort of relate to Dib and get frustated WITH him, not AT him. (I do know that the IZ crew tried very hard to do whatever in their powers to make Dib more likeable by the viewers and it never really.. worked.)

Aww... what a sweet thing to say! I probably would be, now that you mention it. I wouldn't like him so much if I didn't also relate to him so much.

A while back I told someone (who also wrote fanfiction on fanfiction.net) that character A simply liking character B may go a long way to motivate A into helping B... but if B is going through something A also went through, rivers of molten lava would not be enough to stop A from helping B.

Quite a few things, actually.

I agree, it was horrible of him to betray Dib. =/ I was hoping that he'd be an ally to Dib, but nooo...stupid writers.

Although, I don't really hate Dwicky. I kind of like him because he reminds me of a teacher in school I like. It's not his fault, anyways...he could have been a cool character if it wasn't for how the writers made him. (At least I think so.) Just think...if he were written differently he could have worn a trenchcoat and gone on adventures with Dib and stuff. Although...that might be awkward with the age difference. Maybe they could have written him as a teen? Meh...I don't know. I'm just rambling here.

But anyways, good job on the picture!

Also, if you really hate him, you can always think of this cool character attacking him.

(It's a character from Wolf's Rain, a fantastic anime.)
Even though I sort of like Dwicky, since I like Darcia more, it wouldn't make me incredibly mad if Darcia attacked him.... (Even though it would never happen, anyway...)

I really don't know WHAT it would take for the viewers in general to have any respect for Dib.

"Overdone." You just described my biggest problem with it. One day I asked my mother why every single song on the radio was about just one subject... romantic love! I was six or seven at the time and tired of seeing it everywhere already. You do the math.

Here's what REALLY gets me... the one thing without which you REALLY cannot have a story is conflict. And yet even HERE we have more variety! Character against character, character against nature, character against self.

I agree that an emotional aspect makes a story much richer, but that is not the only sort of love in the world! Friendship , parental love , patriotic love , love of a pet ... If every single book we sat down to read had an obligatory subplot about a lost dog... or a sick child... or an estranged parent, how long would it be before everybody started asking the same question I did: can't they think of anything else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Dibsthe1 In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-19 19:36:08 +0000 UTC]

Okay... an emotional dimension does makes it a better story; it does not necessarily have to be romantic.

Take somebody working in a lousy job who is trying to get up the nerve to either ask for a raise or quit. The other side of their life is that they come home to somebody every day. It can be a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a spouse, but it doesn't have to be. It can be a parent or a child. Or why not a best friend they're sharing an apartment with?

Movies have a SORT OF excuse for this anti-creativity in that they're the number one activity for dating couples but GEEEEEEEZ! does that get old for me!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

FatCaiman In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-18 02:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's when I have a problem with a romantic story...is when they put was too much emphasis on it, it doesn't make sense, or just because it's been done so many times and I don't feel like seeing it all the time. But I don't mind reading a romantic story/seeing a romantic movie if the characters are well written/developed. (Or sometimes if they're just hot. xD Lol. But hey, you have to admit it makes the movie/story better!)

That's true, conflicts have more variety than just romance...

I do agree with your point that romantic love isn't the only kind of love. However, it seems to be the one that's written about the most often, which is why it can get so tiring. =/ I don't really see as many stories written about parental love, patriotic love, friendship, etc. as romance. It's too bad, really. =/

Thank you!

It staggers me that anybody can ever consider the ending to Vindicated as funny.

All you describe was what Dib believed he'd finally found, someone who believed him, a friend, an ally, FINALLY... right before it was all yanked away from him. Poor kid.

I might have really enjoyed the fics with dwicky in them that keep showing up, if the writers didn't think they needed to SLASH THEM TO DEATH! (I just do not care for ANY romance, period, in my entertainment. I don't even like canon romance.)

Thanks for the link to Darcia. Hey, dwicky, want a puppy...?

FatCaiman In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-10 03:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know. But people laugh at things that really aren't supposed to be funny a lot of the time. =/

It's just too bad that Dwicky couldn't have been an ally. Then maybe the fans would have more respect for Dib? Hmmm.

I don't mind some romance/slash in books and fanfics, but if it's overdone or not logical it annoys me. Especially in some books that I've read before, it seems like the author will just put two random character together just to have "romance" in the book, as a secondary plot or something. It's like, what's the point? Not all books need romance. But I do like romance if the characters are written well and it makes sense.

Yep, here's a nice cute, crazy wolf for ya.

Agreed on the asshole thing. When I heard about and then saw the episode, I wanted to think that Dib was actually gonna get a real ally, but... knowing the ways of Nick, I couldn't trust that... :\ Tis horrible how it turned out. * Dib*

Unfortunately, when daring to set foot on FanFiction.net again, I've seen a lot of fics that are labelled as DaDR. -.- What the hell?! Not only is that pedophilia, but it's also just... completely improbable. Why would Dib trust him ever again? And why do people have to come up with such sick crap?

Anywho, also, I got your response from my comment on FFN. I can't wait to see more fics.

Why thanks! I'm still getting the hang of Photoshop. I was almost finished this when I remembered I could adjust the transparency on the shading, so I trashed it and started over. I find I can do more and more things faster with it lately, so that's a hopeful sign.

Horrible. Squalid. Pitiful. Ugly. Nauseating. Monstrous. For starters.

The hatred that simian run studio bore for Dib was beyond ALL rationalizing, let alone rationality. If they hadn't made it their mission to see how much more evil they could be to him in each succeeding episode, the case could almost be made that they were trying to create sympathy for him. (It DOES in fact work that way for some of us. )

Since when has probability been a concern to slash addicts? They've been doing z@dder since well before I found out about the show.

I don't know where they all live, but where I come from, pedophilia is the most abhorrent thing there is.

Yes, that's what I heard too, that Jhonen implored N!ck not to make Dib into too much of a patsy or buffoon. It's getting to the point where I want to talk to him personally, or at least email him, and get the real story straight from the horse's mouth.

Even thinking of trying an unknown spell on that raging berserker psychobitch is just plain stupid. Unbelieveably stupid. Tear that page up and start over stupid. INVADING RUSSIA ON THE FIRST DAY OF WINTER STUPID!

"Former friend"? Were the two events related, may I ask?

In all honesty, I do not know what I would do if I was watching IZ with someone who exhibited such a miserable, utterly heartless reaction as that. People are sick... SICK!!! Dib's trying to save them why again??

And just when I think they can't possibly get any sicker, they embrace with open arms, of all things, PEDOPHILIA!!! I don't want to know what's coming next.

Dibsthe1 In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-19 20:54:59 +0000 UTC]

I've been thinking about rewriting that episode, or at least the ending of it.

She doesn't sound real. She sounds EVIL, and I do not mean in the everyday garden variety evil either. I mean the real deal, the genuine, Satan-worshipping, baby-eating evil.

I... I just have negative zero use for those who go out of their way to push others's buttons just for a five cent thrill. I hope to hell that hell IS adding a new and especially hot circle specifically for them as I type this.

It's like they're doing their damnedest to eradicate all that is decent and human, first in themselves, and when they've done with that, in everybody else as well. It just gets to be so much easier, in a lot of cases, to desensitize yourself to both your own pain and that which you witness inflicted on others.
Kudos to you for surviving it to be the terrific person you are today!!

You know, when it comes right down to it, THIS is what makes all that so-called Dib "tourtoure" wrong. No matter WHAT neanderthal N!ck execs with private axes to grind order the writers to have happen to him... no matter what those who hate him out loud write as happening to him... and no matter what certain people who THINK they're "fans" draw happening to him... they're not going to hurt Dib! He's not real! He's imaginary!

Who they ARE going to hurt are the people who do like Dib, and these people are very much real indeed.

Oh, so it was "stupid" of Dib to try to save everyone when they hated him? I can only wonder what she'd say if he gave up and said Zim could have them. Somehow I don't think she'd approve of that either. When someone hates you, you really can't do anything right.

It's truly EERIE how the unlimited degeneracy of the fanbase reflects the general degeneracy of the people Dib is trying to save in the show, eh???

Dibsthe1 In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-22 17:39:42 +0000 UTC]

That happens sometimes, people falling into patterns that no sane person would ever deliberately choose. Therapists can set their watches by how predictably people escape one abusive situation only to jump into the exact same situation all over again.

I DO hope that your actually being able to see that pattern means that you've broken it.

Dib cares about the earth and gets mocked for it, both on and off screen; Dib fans care about HIM, and they ALSO get mocked for it... giving them even more reason to identify with him. (The more severe the initiation ordeal, the stronger the resulting loyalty often is.)

I'm guessing the one line you've heard more than any other is "It's just a show."

Well if it's "just a show" why do THEY bother watching it then?

It seems to be okay to beg, beg, beg, beg, beg on bended knee the writer of the fanfic you're following to update. It sure seems to be okay to admit in your review that you cried; that even makes the writer look good. And it is sure as hell okay to obsess endlessly over all these stupid "ships" that exist NOWHERE else but in their own minds, to indulge z@ddershit to every and every extreme beyond imagining, stuff you'd need to ingest near-lethal amounts of hallucinogens to come up with. All of that is OKAY.

But protesting the endless Dib abuse is another matter entirely. I'm not sure to what degree this is also true for the other characters (I'm not sure how often the opportunity ever comes up, for one thing) but I DO know that showing anger on Dib's behalf is MOST. STRICTLY. FORBIDDEN.

The person who said that if Zim was real, she'd join him in destroying humanity... I have to ask, would she include herself in that? She IS part of humanity, no matter how much it grieves either of us to admit it.

I'd like to work that last bit into a fic sometime, about how to just WHAT degree the evils of the characters in this show are reflected in its fans.

nightmarekitty In reply to Dibsthe1 [2007-02-19 21:18:32 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I'd like to see your rewrite....

I had (hopefully don't still have) a pattern of choosing rather... evil people to hang around. And usually I didn't realize it as the case until it was over or just about. I don't wish PUNISHMENT on them so much as I wish they'd understand what they'd done, the effects it had and could offer me a reason, any kind, for how they acted.

:3 Thank you. I'm glad I'm liked.

As one of the people I know said, the Dib fans actually take the show and its characters (especially Dib) seriously.... and a lot of the other fans tend to go after them for this, or so I've noticed. Sadly, it would seem that the more vehemently you stand up for something you care about and show your care for it, the more people mock you for it or try to ruin it for you. v.v

This is the type of person who said that if Zim was real, she'd join him in destroying humanity. The irony of it all is that I was always the one she was accusing of being negative, unforgiving, antisocial and hateful. Projection much?

Yeah, it IS weird how the very fans of the show and (supposedly) its main characters act like the sort of judgmental and cruel idiots who the show is directed against. Probably one of the reasons that Jhonen has no respect for the fandom anymore.

@@ I'm bad at checking the deviations again for the replies... Sorry.

I know Jhonen's email acct./IM address, if you want it.

I sorta wish there'd been a worse curse to put on Gaz, really... and one that would make her unable to do anything about it, either.

YAY, that phrase again.

As to my former friend,... eh... not all that much. She was the one who actually broke off with me after a while (mostly because I wouldn't give her money anymore). But the reason I never started back up with her even when she wanted to is that she's actually a lot LIKE Gaz (and some of the fictional bitches I've created, I should note....). This was the sort of person who made me listen to the stories she wrote about how she'd torture the boy she had a crush on, and who, when I told her how another old friend and her little brother had beaten me up one time, laughed and said that that would've been something to see. >>; (Said other friend, too, hated Dib and said about that episode, "he deserved it.")

...She also probably laughed at that part to upset me, seeing at the time, I was very reactive and sensitive, much more than now, whenever I saw anything bad happen to Dib. That and she thought that it was stupid of Dib to try to save everyone when they hated him.

I admire Dib more, though, for being able to see the (non-existent?) good of humanity in general and find that worth saving despite how badly he's treated. And isn't that the definition of a hero, putting others' welfare no matter what over their own?

Me neither, me neither..... Though this isn't the first Dib pedophilia pairing I've encountered, sadly. ><; It's just the most frequent. Though I guess I should be glad that there's not MORE Dib/Bitters, Dib/Darkbooty and (worst of all) Dib/Membrane out there.

Glad you're learning to use it quickly. Will be nifty to see more of it.

That's what I thought Jhonen was trying to do towards the end of the show, make it clear that Dib was the hero, the only good guy in a bad world. But then again, towards the end of the show, they also started making Dib stupider, or so it seemed, so you're probably right. It SHOULD get sympathy rather than laughter from the fans, though.... I don't understand how anyone would or could feel anything but sympathy for Dib... but then again, a former friend of mine laughed her ass off in the part of Gaz Taster of Pork when Gaz was beating Dib up for no apparent reason, so... --; Insensitive people....

You have a point about slashers... -.- Illogical, the most of them. More doing it because "there like so kawaii together! ^_^" or something rather than it actually making sense. And how pedophilia is cute OR logical, I have no idea. >>
