Description
The moment I saw that new Rainbow Rocks music video "My Past is Not Today", I knew that I had to draw Sunset Shimmer in her triumphant phoenix pose at the end. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqnbYU⦠At first I was planning on doing a collage illustrating what was featured in the three new music videos. But then I decided to do something that celebrated the story arch of Sunset Shimmer. This is a character who went from being a power hungry stereotypical "mean girl" villain of a high school musical plot, to being one of the most endearing and sympathetic characters in the franchise. And my favorite thing about it all, is that her transition is paced out and very believable. It's one thing for the villain to redeem themselves at the end of the story, it's quite another thing to go into how said character struggles to find compassion and forgiveness after she threatened to enslave her school as a raging she-demon.... uh, no offense.Sigh, none taken.

I've said this before and I will say it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again AND AGAIN until the day I die and beyond, I like that Sunset is good now, but what pisses me off about it is not that it came out of nowhere, but how Twilight verbally chastised her while she was broken beaten and humiliated in the middle of a crater. I know what Sunset did, but she did not know she would turn into a demon!! Did you all not see how she was crying during her transformation?! Well....DIDN'T YOU?!?!!?!?!?!?! And yet despite that, you and everyone else have the gol, THE NERVE, to be all, 'go to hell, Sunset, burn the witch!!!!' Look, a lot of you probably to realize this, but when you have all the talent in the world and you don't what you feel is rightfully yours, it can suck and that's what happened to Sunset; she had all the talent, but Celestia wouldn't make her an alicorn and it pissed her off. I relate to Sunset in a way because I understand that kind of feeling.

I think that a lot of the humane six chastising her was in regards to the uber bitch that she was being through the whole movie, and not just when she turned into a raging she-demon (I fault the sloppy writing in the first film mostly). But you'll notice that in the third movie, Sunset has a moment where she chastises (and completely justifiably so) Sci-Twi for her magical stealing shenanigans even though she was doing it out of naivete and not malicious intent.
