Description I think that's what these are called... espadrilles.

FULL VIEW PLEASE! This is my life's work. If you full view only one of my pieces, it should be this one. Yes, I know it's a freakin' huge pic, but if you full view you get the detail.

One of the only pieces of art I've ever created that I can say I like. Mostly. (Ahh, it's the apocalypse!)

Done in colored pencil. Took a long time. I'm gonna send this one to the AP graders so they can see all of it's 19"x24"-ness. And I've now learned why one does not draw with colored pencils on a 19"x24" piece of paper. Oops.

Comments please. And critique.

/EDIT: took a better pic of it, so I changed the image.

I can see why it's your fav!

You did an incredible job here!

I've only been using colored pencils for around 8 months now, so, I have a lot to learn about them. I hadn't drawn at all for years but now I think I will never be too far from my cp's ever again!

Artists like you inspire me to keep at it......thank you!

Miss A.

The sandals are spot on in texture and color. They pop right off the page.
However, I feel like the texture on the ribbons look too much like rough pencil strokes.
The texture of the blanket also looks a little rushed/scribbly. I feel like you might have more fully achieved the affect you were going for had you made the blanket have a smoother finish.
But overall this is a phenomenal piece that really shows a lot of time/effort and knowledge of art elements.

Wow. It's cool that you were able to stay engaged in a colored pencil drawing that size with the quality you came out with. You must have the patience of Job. You took full advantage of the size by putting in all those little undulations in the fabric of the shoes! Great use of value changes and color to show the different textures...very believable. This is a very good piece of work, i can see why you are proud of it. If you are going to do piece promotion, this would look good printed on a glossy card. Excellent piece of work!

Yea haha, I don't know how I did it... man I drew this so long ago. Again, thank you for the lovely compliments!

You think it'd look okay printed on glossy paper? I had it printed on non-glossy (I forget what type) of paper once, and it didn't turn out too well. That could also be because I had it printed the same size as the original... I'm sure smaller would look better.

Daniel-Storm In reply to dokusaisha-chama [2008-07-31 23:51:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes, i think it would look fine on glossy paper, and having something printed smaller always helps. However, if you are presenting for a review to get into a school, always take your original if you can do so safely.

Haha I wish I had thought of that when I was applying to school... ah well, I'm where I want to be anyway. I made slides of my stuff for college applications, and I guess those are usually pretty good.

I'm in studio now, so I do AP work but don't do the exam. I'm taking it next year though. Are you at an art school?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dokusaisha-chama In reply to julie721 [2008-03-07 19:47:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, I'd have loved an extra year to get all my AP stuff done. I took an extra class period of art, but a lot of my stuff was rushed, and it still ate my life.

Nah, I didn't want to go to art school so I'm at a liberal arts college... best thing ever . If you want to do art, they've got a program, and if you're a science geek like me, they have that too!

Yeah, I'm so glad I took the class this year! I didn't think I was ready for it but there's no way I would've been ready next year knowing how the class goes!

The first year my high school offered AP art was my senior year, so it was take it then or take it never. We were the guinea pigs I guess, haha. I think I almost didn't take AP art so I'd have room for AP bio, but I'm so glad I took AP art! Definitely an amazing class.

dag yo, unbelievable....you will definitely have a great future ahead of you......
its very hard to copy something in real life and you do it with ease. if you need any advise from an old fart like me, more than glad to provide you with some insight in the real world as an artist or designer

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dokusaisha-chama In reply to mycort [2007-05-13 04:34:19 +0000 UTC]

Oo, do you work as an artist/designer? I've never really learned what I can do with art, besides be an art teacher or a starving artist, neither of which appeal to me. I'm one of those picky people... I work when I feel like it, in whatever medium I feel like (usually colored pencil), and what I feel like drawing. I hate deadlines, but that's probably not unique to me haha.

I'm going to college next year, and I wasn't really planning on taking any art classes, but I am planning on doing some more art on my own time.

So I guess what I'm asking is, what else is out there, and what do you do? I know I wanna go into science, but if that doesn't work out, an art career - or even art on the side to suppliment my income, or something - would be my next choice.

Yes, I do work as a designer fulltime and as my main career. I went ahead and wrote my response to your email address instead (yellowkirby666@gmail.com), so please check it. It contains some personal information about me and didnt want to share it here.
