APPEARANCE
Rui is a teenage boy of average height and he has a lean muscular figure. His healthy, ruddy skin accents perfectly with his short, auburn-brown hair that stops to the nape of his neck with small front fringes that framed his oval-shaped face. He has deep set, light blue eyes and a full set of lips that showed a warm smile that he used on a regular basis. As a student of Iwatobi High School, his fall and winter uniform consists of a white buttoned down shirt, a neck tie (which he changes color according to each year), a dark gray buttoned blazer with the school's badge that is worn on top of it, and light brown pants with orange sneakers.
For the spring and summer months, he wears a white short-sleeved buttoned down shirt with a black collar and light blue trimming on the sleeves, the symbol of Iwatobi High School sewn is on the left side of the shirt, a green bow tie with a white dotted design on it (which he changes colors according to each year), and a pair of dark gray pants with his orange sneakers.
While swimming competitively, Rui sports a black, one-piece swim jammer with red tribal patterns on the front of it and a black swimming cap. He also wears a pair of orange goggles with a black head strap and matching trimming around the lens cushion.
During Rui's private time, he derives his fashion from the classic "B-boy" look. Most of his clothing will consists of skinny jeans, t-shirts, beanie hats, sneakers of different colors, and accessories. Sometimes, he'll wear a different look if he wants to be more comfortable. He'll even carry a backpack with him that will have his swim gear in case he wants to go swimming.
PERSONALITYAs a child, excitement and spontaneous behavior would be the perfect words to describe Rui Aizawa. He is a fun-loving, caring individual that can make even the grumpiest person smile. Rui tries to be a high social person, but he constantly challenges himself on regular basis to see if he is capable of overcoming the things that he lacks in. At times, Rui acts like a know-it-all, but he does it to learn more about things rather than to impress people and to simply have facts to share with the people that he cares about. Rui likes to express his energy through constant movement and outdoor activities and he does this because it makes him feel like life is one great adventure to him.
As a high school student however, his social skills and fun personality are taken to new heights as he somehow becomes the social acolyte of the school and the female student body. While Rui doesn’t mind the attention because of his social skills, he’s not vain about it and he treats the girls and his fellow students with respect. Every now and then, he will tease and flirt with the girls and the guys, but it’s only for fun and to make them feel better about themselves. Rui also likes to frequently talk about the latest news in the sports world (mainly about swimming). His vast knowledge does come in handy when certain events come up unexpectedly. Boredom is not something Rui is fond of and it will feel like a prison to him. In some kind of way, Rui will find anything to break the boredom into something more exciting for himself and the people around him.
Even though Rui is seen as a normal person, he still harbour some insecurities about himself behind his bright smile. The car accident that led to his leg amputation had really impacted him. At times, he feels as if he can no longer do the things that he used to do with his former leg and it makes him think that no one could truly understand him. Because of that life changing experience, Rui tries to ignore the negative things about his leg and focuses on the positive things that can come from it. To Rui, his prosthetic leg is his second chance at life and he believes that the world he lives in doesn’t have to be a time of sadness, but a time for more pleasant memories and miraculous things to take place.
HISTORY
Rui Aizawa was born to his parents, Hiroji and Jae-Li Song at the Soeul National Univeristy Hospital in South Korea on the evening of June 7th. During that time, Hiroji was just a novice seaman while Jae-Li was starting her new job as a Surface Water Hydrologist. Itsuki, the eldest son was still only a child and it was a wonderful experience for him to have a younger sibling to play with and take care of in the near future. With the newly arrived Rui in the family, both Hiroji and Jae-Li had juggled through different work schedules to try and take turns taking care of their children. It wasn't until a few years later that both Hiroji and Izumi parents had gotten promotions from their respective jobs. While they were both happy about how the promotions would give their children more financial stability, they were concerned about their care since the promotion had brought more work hours and having to move to a different country in order to take the promotions. The only good news about the new promotions was that they would get the weekends off and earlier off days.
With that being said, Hiroji and Jae-Li had asked one of their closest friends if they could possibly babysit their children during the week when they had moved to Japan and got settled in. The person that they had chose for the job was Naomi Miyoshi. Jae-Li and Naomi were childhood friends and she figured that Naomi's daughter would probably want to be friends with her sons. After Hiroji and Jae-Li had packed up everything, they had finally moved to Japan and into the Shizuoka Prefecture where Naomi lived with her husband, Ouji. Around the time Rui was six and Itsuki was fifteen, Naomi had gotten acquainted with the Aizawa boys during her first babysitting job and introduced her daughter, Kozue Miyoshi. The Aizawa boys had gotten along with Kozue because of her charm and fun-loving personality. Soon afterwards, Kozue had became Rui's first and best female friend and he was happy to know that there was someone his own age that he could hang out with.
Elementary Years and Discovering His Spirit Animal
During his early elementary school years, Rui was enrolled into Shizuoka Elementary School with Kozue and they spent much of their time together. Most of the time, they were known for the constant pranks they would pull on their classmates and the fact that both had a liking for sea-related animals. Two years later in the 5th grade, Rui and his class had went on a field trip to the Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium for a science assignment. The assignment was to pick an animal and learn more about its personality while enjoying the aquarium itself. The majority of his time spent there, Rui was interested in looking at the animals instead of doing his actual work. He was so excited about being in an aquarium that he ran off away from his class and got himself lost.
While he wondered alone in the aquarium, he came across the section that had held the more dangerous fishes around and he had a close encounter with a shark. He had came too close to the glass tank and the shark's sharp teeth had scared him half to death. Running away in fright, Rui had found himself in another area of the aquarium and he sat down next to a bench to catch his breath. While waiting for his heart to calm down from his earlier scare, Rui had heard a soft tapping noise and it was coming from the tank in front of him. Opening his eyes, he had saw a little baby seal freely tapping on the window and waving to him as if asking Rui to come closer. Still a bit fearful, Rui had walked up to the tank and pressed his hand against it, feeling the cold sensation from it. The baby seal had placed its small elongated claw to the window and Rui had smiled from the animal's gesture from trying to calm him down.
For an hour, Rui had stayed with the baby seal and constantly watched how it swam in the water. Rui was amazed by how fast the seal could swim and how cool and majestic it had looked. It made Rui wonder what it would be like to be able to swim with the same abilities as a seal and he remembered a week ago when Kozue had asked him about joining the Shizuoka Swim Club with her for the summer. A few moments later, Kozue had found him and she had asked him where had he been doing and he told her he had been doing his assignment. In truth, all Rui thought about was how cool a seal looked when it swam around. Rui had told Kozue that he would join the Shizuoka Swim Club with her and from that day forward, he had embraced the self-proclaimed nickname, "The Comedic Seal" because of his fun-loving behavior and devilish behavior and for the love of his new favorite animal, the seal.
Konami Sports Club Years and Life Changing Experience
Throughout his middle school years, Rui had became a member of the Konami Sports Club along his friend, Kozue. Swimming wasn't as mainstream as the other sports, but he wanted to learned the butterfly stroke and Rui practiced the swim-style in order to perfect his swimming craft. During his time there, he had made new friends by the name of Jun Yoshida and Iori Otaka, who were both freestyle and backstroke swimmers respectively. It was one afternoon where Kozue's mother had asked them to help her at the Shizuoka Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and their job was clean some baby otters from an oil spill that had happened during that week. One of the baby otters had managed to sneak away from the center in order to get back to the ocean. Everyone in the center had split up in order to cover more ground and to find the baby otter.
The girl known as Jun Yoshida had found it before everyone else and she caught it just after the otter had crossed the street. Rui has soon caught up with Jun and he was happy that the two of them were okay, but that moment of bliss was short lived when a speeding car was coming toward Jun and the otter when they were trying to get back to the other side of the street. Rui had quickly rushed into the street and he managed to push Jun out of the way, but in the process, the car had slammed into Rui's left leg and he tumbled violently on the ground, rendering him unconscious. Jun had screamed and cried for help after seeing Rui's unconscious body and his leg was bludgeoned from the impact of the car. Moments later, the police had quickly arrived and promptly called EMS after seeing the accident.
Three days after the accident, Rui had woken up to find himself in a room in Shizuoka General Hospital with his family and his friends surrounding him. Jun felt so terrible about what happened to him and she hugged him tightly as she constantly cried and apologized to him. Rui had suffered a few minor scrapes and lacerations and even some back pain, but nothing had prepared him for when he had found out that his left from below the knee was completely gone. Rui was only thirteen and he did the only logical thing he could think of around that time: he screamed and panicked. Hiroji and Jae-Li tried to calm him down the best way they can and hearing this, the nurses had quickly rushed into the room to give Rui a shot to stop him from causing a ruckus. Rui was desperate for answers, but the shot had calmed him and he fell asleep before he could ask anything else about it.
A couple of weeks later, Rui's family and the doctor who was responsible for Rui's care had discussed what had happened to him during the car accident. It was revealed that the blunt force from the car was so immense that it had shattered bone from the impact and did severe damage to his arteries. The doctor had also explained to them that the damaged arteries would have a difficult time healing and that could lead to infection if it did healed properly. Not wanting to take that chance, the doctor had performed an emergency exploratory surgery, which was a below the knee amputation. Rui was very much aware that these kinds of unfortunate things happen and he was pretty much calm about it. However, when the doctor told him that he could no longer pursue his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer, Rui's world had came crashing down on him.
While Rui recuperated in the hospital, he had went through a phase of post traumatic distress over the mere thought of his dream being taken away from him. Around that time, the dream of going back to a normal life seemed impossible and he felt like giving up on it entirely. He cried and wanted the pain to go away, but he soon realized that the only way the pain would truly go away was if he was to accept what has happened to him and move forward. It was a difficult thing for a young teen to tried to conquer on his own and with the motivational support of his older brother Itsuki, he was more than determined to reclaimed his life back. When he was properly healed, Rui had made a decision of getting a prosthetic leg an complete therapy so he could walk and swim again.
A New Beginning - A Stronger Dream - A Brighter Future
While he went through his rehab and therapy period, Rui had got into a new hobby to past the time: creating and mixing music. In a sense, it had motivated him even more and kept his hopes up for a speedy recovery. Within two years and with sheer will power, Rui was able to walk again with a custom-made prosthetic that could used for everyday usage and swimming. When Rui had wanted to learn how to swim again, Kozue, Iori, and Jun especially had volunteered to help him get back to how he was skill wise as a swimmer before the accident. Jun had felt even more compelled to help Rui and made a promise to him that she was going to get him back into the swimmer that he used to be – even if it had taken her a lifetime to do so. A year later, Rui had regained his ability to swim and he was even capable of swimming without his prosthetic as well.
By the time he had entered his first year as a high school, Rui was happy to simply have a normal life again. From time to time, people would show sympathy or even ask questions as to how he lost his leg in the first place, but he would always tell them that his prosthetic leg was his second chance at life. He called it that because it had restored his faith in life and living fully every day with no regrets. His mindset had even driven him to have two new perennial dreams: to become a motivational speaker for amputees and be the first amputee swimmer to make a breakthrough and swim in the Olympics. Rui was more than determined to help other people and those with no dreams create new dreams for a brighter and stronger future.

⊙///⊙ Well hello~
Awesome job on the bio, but just one minor little thing I would like to say.
Isn't it that only the seniors in Iwatobi have green ties (like Mako and Haru for example) and the underclassmen are red (like Gou, Rei, and Nagisa).
Since this good looking stud is a first year, his tie should be red, right?
