Kyalani spun around. Fira arrived running along the docks where Kyalani had begun to inspect the fortification work she had started a week earlier. She waited patiently for the nun to join her.
"You look like a Bakluni caught you with the Cup of Al'Akbar hidden between your buttocks! »
Kyalani repressed a scathing remark but couldn't help but blush. Fira's jokes were often in bad taste and not always funny. This one was a perfect example.
"I'll ask you to leave my butt alone and get someone else to knock out with your nonsense, if you don't mind," she replied in a tone she wanted to be sharp.
"All right, that was a joke! Don't be mean, you're not scaring anyone with your fake naughty look. At least not to me. Ha ha!"
"Grumph," replied Kyalani, while sending a small punch in Fira's shoulder. Not very Elvish as an attitude, but some of her fellow adventurers were beginning to have a bad influence on her behaviour.
"Come on, excuse me, sweetie," Fira agreed wholeheartedly. "Instead, tell me what's wrong. »
"Oh, it's the work being done on the palisade. My calculations were not good, I suppose, and we didn't get the result we expected. »
"Maybe you're not the only one at fault if that's the case. Your workers don't look very qualified either. »
"Maybe, but I'm not so sure I am either. My knowledge is totally bookish. »
"Yet it seems to have worked with the docks and the entrance to the harbour. And then the two extra watchtowers seem to be growing like weeds. Not to mention the other night when Liam and I killed that thieving bastard who came out of a drunken dream. I'm telling you straight up, these pirate bastards will find someone to talk to when they get there!"
"You're right! It's not all bad and things are going well. We're just going to be a little behind schedule with the fence. »
"Let's have a drink then, I'm dying of thirst and it's so hot that I'll have a litre of water down my throat! »
Kyalani followed the exuberant priestess, laughing heartily. Nothing seemed to dampen the young woman's optimism.
