Fantastic. I might add some metallic um highlights, right now it looks like its built from cardboard. Mind you--an awesome cardboard mech. Still a bit more metal look might help.

This reminds me of a mecha puzzle kit Enjoymobil used to sell a few years ago: [link]
Great choice of weathered/eroded textures on the armor plates. Definitely gives it a more-realistic appearance.

Awesome! Can I ask you somrthing? How do you use alpha channel ?

DXBigD In reply to El-Bronco [2010-02-04 02:25:00 +0000 UTC]
The alpha channel is the transparency channel. Just drop an 8-bit (black and white) image into your material's alpha or transparency slot/channel to use it.
The parts of your alpha map which are black and transparent and the white parts are opaque. Anything in-between is more or less see-through.

it looks cool but there are scuff marks all over it, even in places where there should be none. otherwise, looks good.

Holy Shiznit.. that's amazing. I find 3D work is generally underappreciated.. but I know all about the time and effort that goes into 3D modelling texturing and animating.. This is brilliant!.. keep it up!

Thanks man. I wanted to make it look like it could move in a bit of a human way.
If you play Dawn of War or any of its expansions you'll notice that the animations are the best things about those games visually. Even big robots and vehicles seem alive and can shoot, burn, kick, stab, punch, pick people up and throw them around, bite them, etc. They all have some expression and life to them because of the animations, so I wanted to give my robot a bit of that feel. (even though it's not animated)

That would be pretty cool. Bullets wouldn't break through the metal but it would be nice (in a game) if bigger projectiles made it blow up and burn everything around it.

Has more of a Tau Battle suit look.
Not too many people talk about TA, still playing it now.

Have had my eye on Supreme commander, battles on multiple fronts, nukes, big sea battles. Yeah, I am going to snag the demo the millisecond its available. Got a bunch of screenshots as wallpapers too. Hope they don't make it a Vista exclusive like halo 2 for the PC.

Nah, it'll run fine on XP, that's where I've played it. The beta was just the multiplayer version, so I can't speak for single player missions, but it's very nice, gameplay-wise. Also, it runs very well online even with lots of units (on A64 4000+, 1GB or RAM an da 6800GT OC), though I used this AI hack to play against the computer, which took down the performance a lot. (it shouldn't have this problem with the official AI)
You'll actually not care too much about graphics while playing it, surprisingly. It looks ok overall, but one of its best features is the ability to zoom out at any time - a lot. While you play, most units will just be little dots and you'll only pay attention to the large units, some of which take over an hour to build (seriousely). Of course with a lot of workers and resources you can take that time down to 10-15 minutes. Anyway though, the zooming out feature is extremely well implemented, so much so that I have a hard time playing other RTS games now without it. It's definitely a great RTS game.

1 hour for a super unit, that will be cool.
I guess the slacker bots will be put to work.

Forgot to ask, how is the music?
Nothing like hearing some appropiate sounding music when sending loyal robot minions to their death.
Smash mouth's "Super star" does not count.
Evanescence's "Call me when you are level 3" does not count either.

DXBigD In reply to sevenofeleven [2007-01-09 05:14:11 +0000 UTC]
Well, that's one part I couldn't tell you much about. Since it's an MP beta, the music wasn't an important part of it, so I didn't really notice it. I generally have my own music playing during the game, so I'm not even sure if it Has music.
One thing I noticed, which was weird, is that Supreme Commander is one of the only RTS games where the character voices don't really stand out. There were some "we're under attack"-type sounds, but mainly it's squeaky robots and factory sounds without any real character like in Warcraft, Starcraft, DoW, etc. That's one thing they could improve for the retail version.
