'Tis cool. How long does a drawing like that take you?

Thanks very much! This one took about 5 hours (but in instalments - or the little scales make your hands drop of....)

I started watching you for your jewelry, but your drawings blow me away - this one in particular, with all the details.

the amount of detail is just maniac ! I am quite impressed by the effect of smaller scales to suggest the skin folds...

Thank you! Yeah, the scales were a handful... But when you add the shading afterwards they really pop! I was quite amazed by it.

Thank you! It took me the better part of an afternoon and another one or two hours one evening. I started with the scales textures first, then added the overall shading. Seems to work well that way and pull all the detail together.

Ellygator In reply to sevenwillow [2006-03-30 17:00:00 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. I always start with the eyes. That way, if I botch it, there's very little to throw away. And I think a good pair of eyes can really carry a picture.

hmm. That's interesting! I don't start with eyes, I do the outlines and then go back in for the details once I am satisfied with the shape of the face or body...cool to see how you do it.

Thank you! There were a few tense moments there when I was working on the dewlap... Had to get up and walk around the room a few times cause of all the little bitty scales. LOL!

Ooh, good luck on the home decorations. This is a really incredible image and I particularly like the color you chose for the job. I can't wait to see the gecko..what type of gecko are you going to draw?

Ellygator In reply to Nikzen [2006-03-30 17:06:04 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I'm not sure about the gecko yet: Tokees are nice, or maybe a crested gecko. Because of the lack of colors I need to go with really striking textures in the eyes and scales. Got any other good suggestions for me?

Love him! Especially where he gapes/hisses! Such a cute, feisty little one. I think I will definitely go Tokee for the gecko one... Thanks for the link!

Thank you! It's a suede effect dark green paint, and the light cream paper of the drawings makes a great contrast. I'm very happy with it.
