Queen of Beads! This one is loverly, the snaking shape is great and it really looks like a mosaic. It reminds me somewhat of Moorish tilework, but with different colors and favoring curves to linear geometry.

Thank you! I love brickstitch and the ability to combine so many different size and shape beads. Definitely has something of a mosaic.

You've got a good eye for color choice; this version, and the other one you link to, Serpentina, both look very elegant despite the vast difference in color vibrancy and contrast. Good job!

Thank you! I'd done single fans before and one day was playing with the components when I realized you could make them as S curve combinations. One of those Eureka! moments...

Probably around 40 hours. The worst is the picot edge... Your thread will snarl in the little triangles Every. Single. Time!

Beautiful work. I love your attention to detail...for example the pearlish looking beads, the piece would still look lovely without them but it really makes the piece look that much more interesting having them there. The different shaped beads really create a sense of texture which I also like.

Thank you very much! That's the really cool thing about brick stitch: you can just go crazy with as many different bead sizes and shapes as you like...

In those colours, it looks like it should be one of a pair, attatched to the cuffs of a big Elizabethan dress. * has been watching too much Sunday-night costume drama* I can see puffy sleeves and a great big full skirt...

Oh, that would be gorgeous: beaded long cuffs. Then they should be going from the wrist all the way to the elbow, and then lovely puffy silk above...

It's not too bad, a piece of heavy brocade or velvet would weigh about the same...

The whole sleeve, up to the elbow, beaded like that?

Well, not saying that I'd do it any time, soon, but wouldn't that be stunning?!

talyra In reply to Ellygator [2006-02-10 17:53:01 +0000 UTC]
It would... but it would only weigh the same as a bit of fabric, you think? Really?

Ellygator In reply to talyra [2006-02-10 18:03:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, probably not muslin... LOL! But a thick velvet or brocade, I think so.

I'd have thought it would be heavier, that's all. I am, however, no seamstress...

That's a lovely piece! The colors in it are wonderful.
Speaking of pearls, years ago we went to some amusement place (don't remember where) and they had Ainu divers diving for oysters as an exhibit. I bought a pearl, and got a black one. It's really pretty!
