Description

(2018) 3.5"x3.5", size 11 Delica beads (bone white ab, light amber-lined, silver-lined amber ab, taupe-lined, dark metallic bronze, matte metallic bronze, 14k gold) size 15 seed beads (14k gold), matte bronze iris Magatama beads, fireline.

For this geometric bracelet I did not make any horns and only worked with two layers of wings. I started with a RAW band and worked the central panel of hexagons in a single layer. On either side of it I then built up a double layer of Peyote, one in bone white with dark hexagons, and another outer layer in dark metallic bronze with light hexagons. Each layer ends in 5 horns that are offset from one another and accented at the tips with a Magatama drop each and edged with a row of smaller gold seed beads.

The whole thing reminds me of the layers of honey-comb inside a beehive. Despite its spiny look the bracelet is super comfortable to wear. It also prompted my husband to remark that recently my beads have started to look like they're going to war!

Oh, I love that idea. Of all the spin-off series, I still think DS9 was my favorite...

I'm late to the party, but I can say your DD was definitely deserved! The reversal of colors and uniform pattern make this piece just fascinating.Β  I almost want there to be a tiny beaded bee sewn to it!

Thank you! The odd bit about it was that I started pretty free-form. I didn't know much outside of the math (bead-count and divisibility by 5 for the spines) and a basic unit of the pattern I used on the middle band. The rest really kind of evolved as I worked on the piece, i.e. reversing the colors for the outside set of wings and the way the two tiers came about. I love the idea of a small beaded bee! I need to take a leaf out of the book of some of the 3D animal beaders here like www.deviantart.com/rrkra She could totally pull that off... Maybe if I find some size 15s to play with...

Thank you! And yes, I like the idea of snake skin as well. You could do this with so many different patterns. I really like doing all the spines and horns, even if they do look a little intimidating.

It's not a bad thing at all. I imagine at parties the intimidation factor helps
