Description (2018), 15.5" length. Cotton embroidery thread (cream, gold, bronze, brown), art glass bead, size 15 seed beads (cream, beige, brown), silver findings, size 6 seed beads (transparent beige lined), Fireline

I've had the two-tone art glass bead that's featured as a pendant in this necklace for several years and never really found a good way to incorporate it into a wearable piece of jewelry - until I finally decided to give Kumihimo a try. I got one of the small foam disks and several hanks of cotton embroidery thread and did this 4 color 16 strand rope. The colors and spiral pattern seemed to work perfectly with the bead, so I made a small Herringbone/ Peyote bail out of size 15 seed beads, combined it all with some size 6 seed beads as a connector bead and a dangle, and now have a great way to wear this gorgeous "Whisky and Cream" focal bead.

I'll be making more of these ropes to give other collected art glass beads a chance to shine...

Focal bead was made for me by www.etsy.com/shop/JEANNIESBEAD…

me too. i havent found a good 64 strand braid yet. but most of the standard braids i can do. i also love how the look shifts depending on the type of string you use

Cool! I've used embroidery cotton thread so far (Mouline Special). Do you have any other thread recommendations that you think I should try?

Thanks! I'll try and be adventurous! So far I've started to split down the thread I've been using for thinner cords with more delicate patterns - plus the thinner thread lets me combine the braiding with beads, which looks pretty cool!

Thank you! I love the color combo in the bead - made it easy to pick out complementary colors...

Thanks so much! The seed-bead bail is a really easy way to attach something larger like a focal bead, because it can pick up on the colors and seems to be a nice counterweight to the size of the larger bead.

Thank you! I like that you can take the whole thing apart and wear the focal bead on something else or the braid on its own...
