History:
Anais was born into a normal middle-class family with a loving mother and father and a little baby sister. She was born deaf so she had to be tended to in a special manner. As an small toddler, she was a jolly ol' thing, spoiled by her family and always got her way. They taught her how to sign and to form words and recognize lip movement patterns. However, they wanted her to have somewhat of a normal life so they sent her to public school. When she entered the school system, she was bullied for her skewed speech and her signing which only seemed obscure hand gesturing to younger children. Anais would come home everyday crying and signing frantically to her mom about how cruel the kids were. Each time, her mom would take her out to her garden and they would work tend to the orchard of peach trees in their backyard until the sun went down. This would always lift her mood and it became something Anais looked forward to when she got home.
She took the bullying for a while with a heavy heart until one day, she just had enough. She ended up beating up a girl for messing with her. From that day on, Anais was outcasted. It was even lonelier than before but it was so freeing. She felt empowered, using this opportunity to start her "tough girl" image. As she got older, she got in more trouble because she wouldn't hesitate to fight if people tried to step to her. Her parents finally took her out of school and taught her at home. However, she grew tired of being at home. As she neared the working age, she pursued many odd jobs to keep her out of the house to her parents dismay. She took up physical fitness so her muscles would talk for her and be a sign of caution that she was not to be messed with. Anais began to take on more jobs that required heavy-lifiting that showed her strength and would receive appraisal. She had felt the happiest she had ever been and most night would spend her time amongst the peach trees
When she became 22, she grew tired of being treated special because of her disability. Anais was already making her own money anyway so she felt pretty self-sufficient. One evening, Anais found herself rummaging through the mail which she rarely did. There was never really anything for her there because she didn't have friends or bills. Glancing at each envelope lazily, she casted them aside one by one in an untidy pile. Suddenly, she came across this flashy pamphlet that advertised a town of scenic views and free room and board...and a job??! It sounded so unreal that it made Anais scoff and throw it into her pile of uninteresting mail. However, after a minute or so, she glanced back at it and really wondered if it was legit. Could this be her gateway out from under the wings of her parents? Stuffing the pamphlet into her back pocket and she headed to her backyard into the orchard to ponder more. Anais considered the pros and cons of her uprooting immediately. Nevertheless, she gave it much thought in her safe place deep within the orchards and realized that is time she left. Even if it was a scam, she still believed that with her work ethic, a life could still be made of it. Anais headed back to her home, feeling more determined than ever. She walked in and with hesitation, let her parents know she wanted to live a life of her own and not have them constantly in her shadow. Of course, her parents refused her, telling her she wouldn't be able to make it alone. This made Anais livid and she stormed out of the house. She stopped briefly to glance back at the house to find her parents at the door, eyes full of tears. She furrowed her eyebrows deeper, signing angrily, "It’s my life and I’m not a helpless kid. I AM leaving." She swiftly turned around and didn't look back after that. Anais took her own money and bought herself a one way ticket to her new life.
