Description the wonderful David Tennant, tenth incarnation of the Doctor, Barty Crouch Jr. and Hamlet - one of my favourite actors.

So I was browsing dA the other night and was inspired by the brillliant ballpoint pen art we have around here (for example this: [link] ), and I was listening to a podcast including David Tennant. And since I love to draw him I simply started this.... there are lots of places that could well be improved, but for my first complete ballpoint portrait, and that at somewhere around one in the morning, I rather like it.

Time taken: 1-1 1/2 hours
Reference: [link] -> Photoshoot #10 (sorry, no direct link available)
I absolutely adore this man's ability to smile with his eyes. Okay, I adore pretty much everything on him (seeing him in Much Ado About Nothing was .... such a gift). And he just won the TV Choice Best Actor Award! Over the 11th Doctor, Sherlock, and Merlin. What does that tell us about British Television?

This is amazing! I wish I could draw my favorite actor (Matthew Grey Gubler) with it actually looking like him. Again great job.

Awww, thank you so much! It's really just a thing of practice, and I definitely got lucky here, too! Sometimes you just create things without really knowing how... usually my ballpoint pen works are pretty hideous.

Lucky indeed then
I must take lessons on drawing then (stick figures can only go so far!) lol.

Takes me back seeing blue ink work - I used to sit casually sketching on notepads in front of the TV with biro's etc. Some of my best drawings came out of casually drawing TV icons. LOL

Can I make one observation though. His eyes. I seem to say it alot to people. They are a tadge too close together and a little too big. But on the whole nice work. [link]

Thanks a lot for the feedback! The eyes are one of the parts I'm not happy with. I suppose as he has fairly big eyes I'm tempted to even exaggerate that. I'll be careful to keep an eye on that (sorry for the pun ) next time!
And I'll admit I'm a bit jealous of you being able to draw from the screen. I only managed this through loads of other portraits and sketches - some days ago I sketched someone I didn't know in biro and it looks terrifying.

It's actually deceiving. His eyes aren't all that big, it's just the separation and the stare he has. Pupils are relatively small. I find using grids helps alot and rulers.

BTW I'm not SO clever that I used to sit and sketch my work in front of the TV. I'm a photograph/photorealist type person and like to copy and create that way. I still have alot of envy for alot of artists here, some I will NEVER be as good as, even with all my years of using PS and going to Art college etc.. etc...

There's always going to be someone who is better at doing something. But I try to see it as motivation to improve.
So I see you as being fantastic for being able to sketch from the TV - should I ever be able to do that, I'll find something other that I want to be able to do.
I'm pretty sure it will be some time though, as my vanity forbids me the use of grids and such useful things. No, I simply enjoy sketching freehand better, especially if it doesn't have to be a perfect piece.
