Based upon the hull of the Kunai the Falchion is the Unions smallest dedicated 'true carrier', designed as it is to supplement patrol fleets, convoy raiding operations and trade lane defence across great distances. Upgraded during the Horizon fleet initiative to have a larger and much harder hitting complement of drone Firestorm fighters, Eagle Eye bombers & Whirlwind EW craft the Falchion retains much of the Kunais armament, allowing the light carrier to deploy its main strike wings against enemy targets while also either holding its own or supplementing the battleline with its own firepower. Falchions typically work with Kunais, the two going hand in hand to support one another in long range patrol operations or fast strike missions in larger fleet engagements. While it cannot stand against larger enemy carriers its attack craft wing can hit devastatingly hard in skirmish operations against pirates, second line warships and isolated outposts, or be used to bolster the strike wings of much heavier carrier waves. Once a rare sight in the Union the change of doctrine towards much more fluid operations, long range patrols and quick reaction forces have seen the Falchion rise to quite a common vessel seen in Union space. Relegated to the outer regions where its use was warranted the Falchion before the Draken war was an obscure ship class, one that suffered heavily during the Draken war proper where its light armament, armour and strike complement saw them as little more than fodder against the great enemy. Many believed the class would be retired post war, with very few Peacekeeper model Falchions surviving the conflict, but in a surprise turn the Falchion has been brought back and now plays a key role in the Unions fourth Golden Age operations.
