Cool. Reminds me of Ghost in the shell 2. The opening scenes especially. Gotta love that plastic semi-organic look.

Beautifully shaded. Looks completely as a photograph taken with the smallest ISO.
It totally deserves a better name. A name, i mean.

That was a while so I'll have to dig it up but as I recall there were no lights in that scence, just a sphere with a bright ambient light in its texture, a big light emittong ball around the whole thing. There was also the texture used on the shape. It was a ramp shader, faces that faced the camera were bright, those at an angle were darker. I'm probobly not explaining this well enough so I'll go dig up the file.

i have never thought of making a sphere that emits light DUH!

good idea!

how do u make the ambient light in its texture?

The Mental Ray renderer has global illumination meaning any object can be made to emit light. In this case its a huge sphere encomassing the scene. Its like having hundreds of lights shining on the object from all directions.

cool, i get the idea of it, is mental ray renderer in maya 6? how do i use it if it is? i usually go to the ipr renderer in the top right?!

sorry if i sound lame man

im a newbie

I think it did, you have to change it from the standard maya renderer in the render globals. Also IPR is there just to let you see changes in texture an lighting in real time. What your looking for is 'render current frame'. Mayas help files come with a bunch of tutorials that covers most aspects of rendering.

oh yeah i use reder current frame, otherwise u dont get raytracing right?

i just wonder how to use mental ray? is it a program within maya? do u have to load it or something?

sorry to pis u off!

I think it did come with maya 6, you may ahve to turn it on in the plugin manager though. I think its call mayamr or something. If you cant find it turn all of them on. then go look in the render globals.

Wow, this quite the creative model. I can only imagine where one would go with a base model like this but I honestly think that you should try to push it farther and possibly texture it.

Wow, do you know the name of that style, i've seen it arround a lot. Great shape and smooth texture, looks like the kinda stuff they use to make mouseballs out of.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

evilhomer145 In reply to Digital--Ice [2005-07-30 09:23:29 +0000 UTC]

It's not really a style as such, its just some random geometry with basic lighting and no texture. Such a thing is good for showing the detail and such in model to see if it needs anymore work before it gets textured.

I find the trick is not to try. If your bored or something just make a shape and start messing with it, you'll be surprised what may come out of it.
