The Hiberi were an Auxilia Palatina unit listed in the Notitia Dignitatum under the Army of the East. This man serves in the army of Belisarius in the 530's AD, during the reconquest of Africa.

His shield depicts a Cheetah, and that is because A. it most closely resembles a cheetah in the Notitia and B. This piece was created for the International Cheetah Day Challenge .

The Cheetah is a species that is going extinct, mostly due to poaching and a lack of education about the species. You can help raise awareness and help preserve one of my favorite species by donating to the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
