Description Day 117 of 365

Interesting interesting afternoon photoshoot lol. Decided to bike out to Zorinsky again for some exercise, taking my camera along of course. As I finished my ride around the lake and was about to head home, I saw a little storm coming and decided to watch it from the dam. Misjudged the direction of the storm a bit as it ended up sweeping directly over me instead of going south. Instead of biking the quarter mile to the gazebo for shelter, I just decided to stand there on the dam and let the rain pour down. Had to laugh when it started to hail a little lol, just baby less-than-pea-sized bits of ice. Didn't really care that I was getting drenched. After nearly a month without an interesting photo op, it's really nice just to experience something lol. To make a long story short, I wasn't too disappointed with my drenched clothes when a rainbow came out after the storm passed

Nice capture! You have quite a few excellent water reflection photos, makes me want to go out and try some myself. I especially like the warm light in the foreground contrasting the darker peripheral.

I've gotten a few good photos around Zorinsky, and I need to get back sometime. With the water gone, I'd like to do a surreal/desolate feel, preferably while the skies look stormy. I also think it be fun to get some "after" shots of the drained lake from the same POV as photos I've taken in the past.

FramedByNature In reply to DGolden [2011-05-19 13:42:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I tried a puddle reflection with this shot, but it was honestly a little distracting from the rainbow. Abstract mirrored reflections are great for more mundane subject matter, but things like rainbows and storms don't really need that extra reflection to look cool
There was actually more water than I expected when I was out there last. Guess it makes sense with the rain we've been having. Find a dry stretch of a couple months this summer, though, and I'm sure you'll get your desolate feel. It would definitely be cool to do a "before" and "after" comparison shot. You could even overlay the exposures and have the full side blend into the empty side

Nicely done - the runner really adds to this, with his reflection showing up on the pavement. Great color and composition. It's very saturated... is that post-production?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FramedByNature In reply to Tanager [2011-05-19 13:37:27 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately, yes, to an extent. I accidentally under-exposed the original image (think it metered to the bright rainbow) so everything looked dark. Believe me though, it was a bright rainbow for sure

I believe I've never seen such an intense rainbow! Or did you just enhance it on th e computar?
Anyways, good pic!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

FramedByNature In reply to Leo-Syron [2011-05-19 13:33:04 +0000 UTC]

This one was pretty vivid. Probably helps that there were bits of hail in the precipitation core lol. Also the sun being higher in the sky at the time made the rainbow less "tall" (the highest rainbow you'll get will be at sunset) but the brighter light made the colors more intense

In case you don't know, this difference in the tone fo the sky, that looks like a portal divided by a rainbow is real. I've seen it already.

good thing you respect others
