Description There's an area at the east end of the north runway at Sky Harbor Int'l Airport, where you can stand and watch the planes come in...it's great because you get the roar of the engines and trailing air currents, which swirl around make some rather strange sounds.

Anywho, I go down there occasionally during sundown and this last Saturday evening had some rather nice clouds and colors as you can see No color correction at all done, just noise cleanup!

It's titled "Almost Home" because I often wonder about the people in planes that I see overhead, either low like this or 35,000 feet up (strange, I know)...and perhaps there were a few on this particular flight who'd been away for awhile and were seeing the lights of their home town at last. Look carefully near the tail section and you can see the sliver of a crescent Moon

*adam1975 has posted some rather stunning sunset shots recently, go have a look!

Even without the classic sunset colors (or, almost because you avoided that kind of cliche pitfall), this is an amazingly dramatic shot. The sillouette, the clear sky, and just the beginnings of a sunset that almost " highlights" home--well composed.

You're a good photographer--in case all these comments didn't clue you in on that.

Great composition. I like how you have the beautiful regional jet, the beautiful sky, and the beautiful sunset all in one. Nice job, freeze.

great shot and it gives me similaqr kind of feelings, someone returning home not seeing it for some time...
a very well-done photograph, everything is nice in this, the 'silhuet' of the plane, the sun going down on the horizon and the silhuets of the airport and the clous, they are something on this pic

As usual, .

You would not believe how many times a day I will just stop what I'm doing, and look up. If I'm inside and I hear rotors off in the distance, I run to my back porch to watch whatever chopper fly over my house. Every time I look at an aircraft I wonder the same thing, where are they going? And why? Makes you wonder...

Great shot! Those swooshing sounds you hear are "wake turbulence". Interestingly enough, you don't want to fly through it, the wind is more than strong enough to kill you!

Love those skies. I too, wonder about who is on those planes and where are they going. It is such a contained little environment and strange when you look up to imagine the reality they have of being on the inside looking out at the greater world. Hmmm, did I make any sense? Am I ramblng?

Seriously, that could almost be Knight Street, West Richmond, here in Adelaide. The positioning is almost identical. Except there's a 7 foot wire fence in the way .

Perfect timing, and wonderful colours.

I don't think I've asked before, but what of camera do you use?

I am so glad to hear that someone else wonders about people on airplanes also. I always look up when a big plane flies overhead and wonder the same things.
