So... a Happy New Year to everybody!I think I started reading Kamisama Hajimemashita last spring sometime, but recently I've gotten to the point where making fanart became necessary. XD I'm really confused about what color to make Tomoe's eyes, though... they vary quite dramatically through various color pics.
Anyway, the idea for this was the 'first shrine visit of the year' thing and whatnot, but maybe Nanami would have had to stay at her shrine and take care of things there. ... Unnecessary hypothesis is unnecessary.
As a side note, I miss having photoshop SO FRIGGIN MUCH. Why did I get the briiiiiiiiilliant idea to draw a kimono when I HAVE NO FANCY BRUSHES ANYMORE?? It took so long... I'm really not that motivated/dedicated/able to focus so intensely T___T

Well I did draw the kimonos, but if you are referring to the patterns on the kimono, it was kind of a mix of hand drawn and fabricated, I guess? Tomoe's haori pattern was something I found on google and dinked around with, and I found one cherry blossom branch that I used as reference for Nanami's kimono.

Nanami looks beautiful in her kimono. And Tomoe's (from what little I know about him) eyes look just fine. The lanterns in the background look great too.

The fandom definitely seems like it is in need of more fanart! I was rather disappointed when I saw how little there is out there for it.

I love the background, maybe because I am really a person who loves snow. ( I believe it is snowing that happen in the picture? )
The Chinese lanterns perfectly matched the background. I love the leave at the lantern as well as the Chinese writing. How do you get those character written at the lantern?? It makes the picture so alive.
I personally love the designed on the girl's kimono despite you said having those brushes missing.
I believe the fabric that wraps around the girl's waist call obi? I love the design on it. I spot a yellow like of moon color in the obi which am not sure if it is a reflection from the lantern or it is part of the design. But I really love the design

It is the first art of the year! It's also my 300th deviation, so I felt that worked out nicely somehow. XD
Well I am happy that you like the background! I knew that I wanted it to be snowing, but other than that I didn't know what I would do for the background... so it took a while to come up with something that looked okay.
Those stupid lanterns took so long. u___u I'm not entirely sure if they are correct... I googled for new year's lanterns in Japan - I didn't know if they had special lanterns for New Year's or not. Anyway, when I looked at those lanterns, I just picked ones that I knew how to write. XD Some kanji are so complicated that I would be afraid to write them... but these are a blend of kanji as well as hiragana and katakana, which are much easier to draw. I'm really glad you like them, though, since I took a lot of time on them.

Yup, it's an obi. There is some yellow on it which is just part of the pattern, I believe. Drawing kimono and obis and the accessories can be really tricky because the colors and patterns are usually so different but somehow have to work together. u___u I really admire how some women can put those outfits together! I had just hoped that the yellow could tie together the obi and kimono colors.
I am hanging in there. Med school is brutal, and I really miss having free time and being able to draw... but at least I have a full semester under my belt now! That's an accomplishment, I feel. XD I am also looking forward to next semester a little because we start learning things like pathology and physical diagnosis, which feels more like a real doctor, I guess. XDD What about you? Did you have a pleasant New Year's? Regardless of how your night was, I hope that you will have a wonderful and fulfilling 2012!

Ah I have seen those kanji words on latern before especially in Japanese anime. They have it up during some festival that I am not sure about the name. 
I know right, not only the accessories are hard to draw but the pattern on kimono proof to be challenging too. I also know that it was not an easy work to make kimonos. They really took time to have the pattern printed. That's why they are costly.
hehe you are not the first one claim medical school is brutal. My fiance's sister also doing a medical course I think she is specialize in heart I guess.
I love to see your new work. Because you draw when you want to release tense and each time you brought us soothing refreshing.
I see that despite the life in med school is brutal you are enjoying it. Nothing is happier than to do something we like ne?

Anyway, thank you! I definitely think that you should read this manga, because it is very enjoyable - I feel that even though it has a lot of the standard shojo elements, some things are very refreshing. Nanami stands up for herself and takes control of the situation most of the time, rather than waiting for somebody to help her out. She's a strong female character, which is really nice! So I really hope that you'll have a chance to read it.
