Description Taken on Saturday outside St. Andrew's Church, Shadforth, County Durham.

I went to a history display at St. Andrew's Church, which was organised by a friend (who can just be seen in the background between the 2 vehicles), and outside were these two WW2 era American army vehicles.

The rear vehicle is as most people will recognise, a Willys Jeep (owned and driven by Pauline Parkin), while the foreground vehicle is a Dodge Command Car (Owned and driven by Bob Parkin).

Here they are leaving for the 15 mile drive home.

Thanks Frank.
I must admit that I sat in the shade of, and leaning against a tree, for quiet a while to catch these leaving, and hoping that the Dodge would lead the way.

Well, you lucked out!

I really like the way the vehicle is in focus but the front wheels and background are slightly blurred. That gives it a three-dimensional quality as well as a feeling of motion.

I won't pretend that the blurring was intended, because it most definitely was purely accidental, because I didn't even pan the camera which would have blurred everything but the Dodge.

The shutter on your camera might have done it, assuming it has one. Back in the day you could do things like that with a focal-plane shutter.

Anyway, it looks great!

Jeeps outside Churches. That's some contrast.

You've mentioned both Shadforth and Crimden Dene in the last couple of image both places I used to visit a lot and have very happy memories of. Never saw any Jeeps there although I did see one in Stanley recently.

I was quite taken aback when I entered the church gates and saw these standing either side of the main door, rather like gate guardians.

Shadforth is much quieter now, because there isn't even a corner shop there now, though I would still live there if I could afford the price of a house there. It's a place that I visit regularly, because I help to maintain the church organ.

Crimdon Dene has somewhat bad memories for me, because all I can remember as a bairn  is sitting on the beach to enjoy sandwiches, and being surrounded by swarms of wasps intent on eating what we wanted to eat.

I loved both places for different reasons but I do recall Crimdon Dene having quite an excitable wasp population.
