52 Hertz Whale:
Is Anyone Out There?
Each year he makes his migration south from the Aleutian Islands to a breeding area in the Pacific Ocean parallel to Central California, looking for a mate. Unlike other blue and fin whales, his more than 6000 miles a year round-trip swim is a solitary one. He does not travel along with the blues or the fins, because he is neither. He is most probably either a hybrid blu

I haven't heard of the story up till now, but I find it fascinating for various reasons. First I am thinking like a scientist and wondering if this whale is a mutation or how else he might have learned to sing at a higher frequenz. Secondly I thik this is one poor creature if he really is unable to communicate with his own kind. I wonder how loneliness effects an animal like that. I don't want to easily assume it has the same feelings as humans do, but I would like to know what an animal like this is thinking in such a situation.

Overall I love whales and marine life more than anything that walks the earth. Seeing a living blue whale is on my bucket list, but so far I have only seen humpbacks which are beautiful, too .

Edit: Come to think of it: can whales be deaf? Maybe he does not hear or does not hear right which is why he cannot hear in which frequency others sing and therefore cannot resonate the same music.
Also I am wondering how that whale was raised since mother and child would also communicate via sound ?

Ah ok, I got your point. First I did not understand the connection. I know a few people with the Asperger Syndrom and count them as very good friends, but they are usually isolated and misunderstood .
It is definitely nothing that needs curing (could not be cured anyway) and should not be defined as an illness at all .

Me too! Despite the difficulties concerning some communication aspects and empathy I enjoy their way of thinking. Expecially their direct comments. But not all people are understanding. I lost contact with some "normal" friends because they did not like my Asperger friend.
If someone tells me people with autism or Asperger Syndrom (which some do not count to autism) need coring I can get really mad and aggressive. It shows that people have no understanding of the topic and are intolerant. I hate when people insist on others being "normal".

Yes that is wonderful. I know that from my friends. People often do not care about the topics my Asperger friend talks about, because they consider it irrelevant. She would for example talk about animals she observed, but "normal" people would want to talk about clothes or appearance and other junk . I am actually very glad to meet her, not only because she is my best friend now for over 11years, but she also changed my ways of thinking. I definitely pay attention to things I would usually not (like some animals in my surroundings) and even if she did not influence this deliberately, but I would enjoy and pay intention to things that are really important and not waste my time with things I don't like doing but would do to please others.

So beautiful. I read that story and it makes me sad. Nature sometimes does things unexpectedly, which fascinate me. At least he got us who care. (I wish he knows that though.)

Remains of the time I saw a humpback whale with her baby during a whale watching field trip back at middle school. Whales are such majestic beauties.

I agree totally! It would be great if he knew what an impact he made to humans.

I find them very beautiful, too. Also very peaceful.

(Sorry for the late reply) You're welcome! That whale shall forever be loved even if he'll never know it.

So very beautiful work :3 I love it.
I'm not a whale expert, but I know that animals have feelings. I live with cats, and I see how different their personalities are, when they pretend to be offended and when they are really offended, when they miss each other, and so on.
This whale probably feels that things should be different, so he's probably frustrated. But I'm not sure that he can think about this situation or what went wrong, I think he rather just feels that this is wrong.
But that's only my opinion :3

It's interesting though that we, the members of another race can spot this whale, examine, and tell how he is different, we can feel pity, sympathy, and wish to be able to give companions to him.

Thank you very much !
I am pretty sure that animals have feelings (or at least 'higher evolved' ones do, e.g. I doubt that a sponge has much feelings), but I somehow thing that their feelings are different from ours. I wonder if that whale can really feel lonely or if it is natural for him since male whales would often be alone all year around and only meet with others for mating purposes .

It is intersting indeed, but also sad that we can do all that, but not really help him or communicate with him. It would be interesting if we could tell him that the entire world is listening to him and feel inspired to do so many things. And it would also be practical to tell him why he is alone :3.

You're welcome :3

Oh yeah, we could tell him to go to that a big whale-babe and just kiss her. = D Or take her a plankton basket, and she'll hopefully get the point.
Just imagine if human males would sing all the time they want to... you know what XD I think I'd die laughing on the streets XD

About feelings. I don't think they are different. But there are simple basic emotions, and more complicated ones. It depends on the animal what they can feel. For example an animal can't feel lonely if its basically not a social creature. But take a look at a dog if everyone leaves the home and the dog is left alone. Dogs search each other's or other creatures' company, because they think in a group.
I don't know about what sponges can or cannot feel, but once I read that even plants react to danger and other things. We might not call it such emotions like ours but we can hardly say they don't have anything analogue on their own level. They are all living after all. :3

I'm still laughing at the imagination of a whale with a plankton basket woeing for a female .
And no I don't want a guy to sing to me unless he might be good at it and would not be sentimental/trashy

I do make differences with all living beings on how much I think they feel/are able to think, which does not mean I don't treat them with respect. But I think it is different if you rip a part from a sponge then cutting off a dog's tail. Each being has to be treated on it's own.

"For example an animal can't feel lonely if its basically not a social creature."
That is what I meant with that animals feel different . They have a different way of thinking and therefore might also feel certain emotions in different situations than we would. Definitely many animals are capable of feeling most emotions as humans do. Maybe some feel more intense/complex than others. It is not easy to tell without being able to talk with them.

I meant it more like that they would start to sing every time they feel like going to bed with someone :3
You know... calling their partner.

You'd see singing men all the time on various places.

I talk to my cats. I swear they understand it. Only I am the stupid one, because I don't always got what they try to tell me XD
