Description Located in the picturesque South English peninsula of Purbeck, Corfe Castle is a beautiful Norman castle ruin towering above a small village of the same name. Although the present stone castle was built by William the Conqueror and was one of the first stone fortifications of such scale in England, a castle on this site predates the Norman invasion. Long before William and his warriors set foot on the English soil, it had already been important to the English history - after all, this is where Edward the Martyr, a Saxon king, was killed.

Now this is a wonderful shot! Wow, I would love to see this on my way to work It is interesting that this is the place where Edward was killed, I was not aware of that - thank you for sharing!

Wouldn't we all love to see this on the way to work? To be honest, I wouldn't even mind getting killed there like king Edward (I'd much prefer not getting killed at all, but if it can't be avoided, this is a nice place for that ). I'm glad you liked the picture, by the way!

I used to live in Swanage and had this view every day on my drive to work. Thanks for the memory jolt.

You used to live there? So lucky! I currently live in the countryside of north Warwickshire, so the scenery I see every morning is not so pretty, to say the least.
By the way, I have a lot of pictures of Swanage and Wareham and going to post some eventually, so stay tuned. Only, it may take a while, because I post my pictures in alphabetical order, and both Swanage and Wareham are towards the end of this pretty long list.

I have been lucky enough to live in Cambridgeshire, Dorset and now Cumbria, all of which are beautiful counties. I have also been fortunate enough to visit many other parts of the UK that I would be equally happy to set up home in. I'm not sure I could ever choose a favourite location, but my current residence just outside the Lake District is a prime contender. If only I didn't have to work for a living - big sigh - then I could explore so much more.

I will keep an eye out for more of your Dorset photos.

Yes, you're quite lucky with your residence, I won't argue Those are definitely some of the most beautiful places in the UK. I have yet to pay the Lake District a proper visit, but it's a bit out of the way for me and I'm also quite busy these days - what a shame. And no worries, more Dorset photos are coming eventually.
