ZOMG uploading more than one new piece (i.e. that hasn't been waiting around forever to be uploaded) in the space of 24 hours. O.oDrew this between last night and early today. Mechanical pencil on computer paper. I've forgotten how much I love simple mediums like this.
Anyway, erm. There IS a story behind this, but it's a little mortifyingly embarrassing. Just be reassured, you Japanese buffs out there, that I do know that if I wanted to say 'voice of the moon', it would technically be 'tsuki no koe'. I can think of one or two people who may guess what the title is referring to. I'm waiting to see. |D;;;;

I almost bought this because it reminded me of an old Gackt photo shoot. And it's a lovely, detailed sketch.
Reading the description, I wonder if it's Gackt-related after all?

Actually, it's based on a Susumu Hirasawa song, and my feeble mental image of the face I imagined to go with his voice, before I learned what he looked like. He's my favorite musician, and has the most beautiful male voice I have EVER heard.
But I know the Gackt photo shoot you're talking about, and gaaaawd I love that photo shoot. Thinking back, the hairstyle he had in it may very well have influenced this. XDD

Beautiful facial expression, particularly the eyes. The mouth is also very well done; an open mouth is so hard to draw. I like the strong lines in the center around his eyes drawing in the viewer, then the lighter cross-hatching as it moves away.

Open mouths ARE hard to draw. I think this is honestly the only time I've ever done a decent job of it.

LOL I guess he does look like Yorihisa! (I'm assuming you mean Yorihisa from HaruToki; I always thought he was the hottest of the Hachiyou ^^)
But nope, I wasn't actually thinking of him when I drew this. It's more just an attempt to draw the face I used to imagine went with my favorite singer's voice, before I found out what he looked like.

Would never have guessed the secret but it sure is a gorgeous pic!! Funny how some seiyuus and VOA's just get to you. The VOA that does Homura on the dub of Gensomaden Saiyuki is like that for me. I could listen to him read the phone book and enjoy it....

well considering getsu/gatsu refers to "month" and a calender is typically designed according to the phases of the moon, you could be referring to a voice within a certain month or moon phase. it's not a very literal translation, like it would have been if you had put "tsuki no koe" as you mentioned, cus that would almost directly translate into "voice of the moon".
given the image itself, you'd have to visualize what is being represented first before focusing on the name of the piece to really understand what it is referring to. I'm afraid I'm not very good at explaining what I find in a piece, so forgive me if I just seemed to give a lecture here.

Not quite in the sense you guessed, but STILL.
Basically, the story behind this picture goes, there's a track called 'Gatsu' (or 'Guts' ) in the Berserk OST. When I first heard that song, oh, about three years ago now, without having read/watched Berserk, I simply fell in love with the voice (which I now know to be Susumu Hirasawa... god, I would marry that man's voice...), without knowing the song title was a character's name, and tried to imagine a face beautiful enough to match it, and this is something like how I pictured it. I didn't want to come right out and SAY "this is how Hirasawa's voice 'looks' to me", because I didn't want it to be perceived as possibly being demeaning to Hirasawa himself, which is totally not the case. *worships him*
But anyway, yeah. Totally dorky story. I still can't believe you actually guessed the reference. XD

That's awesome. I know what you mean... I mean... I don't know WHO that is, and I've never heard the song, but I understand the whole "how his voice looks" kind of thing. Jun, who is the old vocalist from the jrock group Camino looks soo much different than his voice, which I fell in love with years back. The song Tooku e *swoons* it's amazing.
But yes, I love the picture... I like how you drew the moon. I'm never able to pull that off.

Oh man, I used to feel the same way about a song that was apparently Tenchi Muyo (I think). Now I go back and listen to it and wonder how I could have fallen in love with such a nasal voice. xD
Hahaha, whenever I hear the word "GATSU" I'm always reminded of Sailor Guts from Sailor Moon. (He shows up at about minute 8:30 here if you haven't seen him before.) Best villain ever. xD
