This is great...

I mean, especially since i am somewhat into Sci-Fi, the subject of this photo appeals to me. And i think, you captured pretty well how BIG these things actually are...

On top of that, i love blue-tones, especially when they are a lil cooler...

When i look at this... i mean, these satellites point into space... and the background "reminds" or emphasizes this quite well.

Its almost like the satellite dish is *waiting* for its reception, because it KNOWS there is something

Yeh its a fantastic place and so sad to see it all being slowly taken apart. Its been a part of our landscape for years. Pleased you like some of my work, hopefully I will have some new stuff on here soon which I hope u might like

Hm, yeah...

Its a shame, how sometimes very famous places / buildings / things get torn down, because they "ruin the landscape", even though everyone just LOVES them...

I mean.. .after a while, things like these become TRADEMARKS of a certain area or a city or such.
But its good that someone takes the time to capture a nice shot of this place, so it remains in memory

To me, satellite dishes somehow always were... hmm... sort of.. like "windows into space"... that could pickup trange and unknown signals of undetermined origin, maybe, and can establish contact to places, we dont even dream about... "where no man has gone before" (lol)... At least thats the way i looked at them as a child

And hey: i will definitely look around your gallery a little more when i managed to reply to all the messages and such

Yes i agree totally, they are part of our landscape. I was lucky enough to take this shot from half way up another Satellite dish which was huge lol and great to get up there and have a look around as it will probably be the last chance I will get.

Yeah, you should use that chance...

I have never seen a satellite dish from that close of a distance...
Wish i could, though

Hope you snap more pics of it!

Oh, and this reminds me of a discussion on some german Photo-Site.
Someone i am acquainted with took a photo of a landscape, right here where i live, because of the landscape and the sky. And he decided to remove the Powerlines and the poles in photoshop, because he thought, it just looked nicer.

And what happened?

World War III !

There were huge discussions and arguments in the comments to the pic, of whether it was right to remove em or not.
Some people stated, it was a part of our lanscape, and so he should not have removed them, others said, the photo was about the sky, and so it was okay to remove them.

Well if you ever get over let me know and if they are still there I will take you down there.

I took quite a few this one was a bit different the old and new with the dishes and the Wind turbines in the background [link]

I know what you mean about cloning things out, personally I don't care I do it quite often I done it with this one mainly [link] all this one had pylons and power cables all over it and totally ruined the shot so I took them out there's still bits there but better than it was

I seriously see, how it is a rather sad thing to take these dishes down...
Somehow... they just look COOL...!!!

And if i ever plan on coming over, iยดll let you know and we go for a coffee, eh?

And i dont have any problem with cloning things out either... i mean, i enjoy photomanipulations, so it would be rather hypocritical if i would rant against it XD

And noticed how this discussion took an interesting turn...?

the dishes are part of the landscape, because they look cool and have been there for YEARS...

and at the same time, we are talking (and agreeing) about cloning out artificial things from photos

Interesting.
But cool!

lol yeh well we are certainly agreeing lol which is good. Otherwise might be a bit different lol.

Yeh cool a coffee will be waiting for you no problems with that

Yes it has taken a bit of a turn lol. To be honest I don't clone allot out only if something really annoys me like a bloody bird which just happens to fly by in the distance just at the wrong time lol

All very interesting stuff though

Thats very apparent, but yet true: If we wouldnt agree, we might be different XD lol

But yeh, i know whatcha mean to say.
And coffee rulez it all...

Like i said, i like photomanips.. doing them as well as seeing them

and sometimes, you cant get the "ideal" shot, not nowadays, in our busy world.
I am okay with some retouche.

Sometimes, thats an artform on its own

SpunkOnAStick In reply to Kernow-Photography [2008-05-26 21:52:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes they are! If you've ever seen the movie "Contact", that was the VLA. There's 13 in each of the three rows and they can be positioned as far apart as 26 miles.
