Description My fourth picture of Erik.

I went for a sort of Symbolism piece here, and left it with a relatively simply background, so as to draw the viewer to the objects/person within the image. Each thing included around Erik's kneeling figure symbolizes something, and pertains to something in his life.

I KIND of want to see what YOU GUYS think each object in the image represents...but I'm too proud of myself for putting this all together so...here is the breakdown:

The butterfly represents two kinds of metamorphosis: The kind which Erik so desperately yearns for, to become something acceptable and beautiful in the eyes of others, and the OTHER kind of metamorphosis it represents is the changes each new experience and thought brings him throughout his life. Personality metamorphosis.

The Poppy flowers growing up from behind his coat represent his addiction to opiates, and how it grew and grew until eventually it flowered into a full-blown morphine addiction.

The Punjab Lasso around his figure at his feet represents the dark nature that he was more or less forced to have; if not for society and the completely shitty way people treated him because of his face, he probably would've never killed anyone. At his feet, he always picks it back up, even after he thinks he's done with it, for it coils around him like a snake, imprisoning him to a darker fate.

Finally, the blood sprayed across the mask and spattering into the darkness from the tip of his lasso represents the staining of his soul, thrusting him further and further into an ever darkening abyss of sin.

On top of that, the color scheme was intentional as well: The green haze around him represents intelligence and envy. Which he had ridiculous amounts of both. The blood, being red, also represents passion and anger. The little yellow butterfly represents happiness, and like butterflies---any happiness in Erik's life is fleeting, and flutters away almost as quickly as it came.

The whole image, I think...says: "Why can't I be like this butterfly? Happy and beautiful and free...?"

...So....whatcha think? As usual, input is MUCH appreciated.

Now that I made my guess of what the symbolism is I read what you put down for it and the tainting of his departed soul sinking into a black abyss sums it up much better!!!

I think the blood on the mask represents him leaving that life behind and the flower means new life and new beginnings. I don't know I'm just guessing. This is beautiful though brilliant job!!!

This is simply and tastefully done, yet precise in detail. I love the look of yearning on Erik's face as he gazes at the butterfly. This is a very thoughtful piece that perfectly illustrates the emotional/psychological struggle Erik endures throughout his life. It really expresses his desire to be accepted and be seen as beautiful by society.

One of the things that has always drawn me to the character of the Phantom is that, despite his violence and darkness, there is a part of his soul that strives for the light. I view it as a message of hope, that there is an aspect of the human soul that transcends the horrible things we experience in life, something that always extends towards happiness, love, and a sense of belonging.

ARE YOU DROWNING? DO YOU NEED A RAFT?

Internet meme...? I made some memes of Erik, you know. On my Tumblr. a WHOLE bunch of them. Including "Condescending Erik", "Dolanized Phantom", "Three Erik Moon" and a few others. >:3 I get ideas...I make ideas. Oh yeah, and "Misleading Erik". "I WILL SCREW...in this Edison bulb for you so you don't hurt yourself, m'dear."

Thanks a bunch new pal! All of this art I'm doing is leading up to a graphic novel that I plan on doing. >=3

Wow some pretty incredible depth and true emotion you came to add to your work there kid, hell from before showing off with your fancy art skills now you have even more to see and understand when viewing your work, well done.

Will say the feeling of emptiness of his meaning and the need to cling to whatever he can find like the butterfly is a nice medium to take note of. With even so much darkness coming from both and his addiction there's still something of what you can call hope and drives interest in the style of the pic.

The way you have him posed so well on the floor literally about to collapse under his own weight, showing a broken nature to his already disfiguring body, well done.

While do find alot of Phantom of the Opera in the image (obviously, lol) still like to think about Sander Cohen from Bioshock and the way he was caged into his own Fort Frolic to fall deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole.

Clearly you've become even more a professional artists seeing how your coloring has become more focused whether to show the true pale and skeleton look of his face, the bony figure of his hands/body to even the flowing darkness upon his cape.

The lighting is overall limited but like how were clever to create that light source in the middle to better draw you eyes to the butterfly he holds in his hand where otherwise you'd be lost trying to figure where and what the focus is.

Very dark and rather ominous in many ways but still have to say this is just a gorgeous and well drawn piece Kilderok, as always a tip of the hat to you.

Awww...thanks timmy! Much appreciated! And, you know I didn't notice the fact that he looks like he's going to collapse under his own weight? That just...happened. XD;

I've never played Bioshock, oddly enough. It's a game right up my alley I know, but I haven't played it yet!

And yeah, I did learn a few nifty tricks while in college pertaining to catching the eye and coloration. -nod- I'm so glad ya like it! I THINK I'LL MAKE EVEN MORE YES. This is all I've been drawing lately. My whole gallery is slowly becoming nothing but Phantom. It's really a long time coming. I don't know WHY I kept my love of Phantom to myself until now. I've met some lovely people since I "came out". XD

Thanks a bunch again man! Too kind!

Well its a nice effect because it gives him more that frail and weakened state that your going for in the pic, and honestly its not like anything is ruined because of it. ^o^

Jeez you and every person know at home here says that too. The one game would request to every person who's ever picked up a controller in their life, guarantee you'll more than satisfied when you try it. And for the record, think your <3 our friend Dr. Steinman.

Congrats on breaking your chains and finally figuring out what works for you in artwork, still very much on that confusing/branching path, lol. Anycase that's your style being all dark and deep but could see it well before from all your earlier works to even twisting up the green Grinch himself!

Always a pleasure lass and good to talk to you again! *tips hat*

Well of course recall those old pics Kilderok, don't think this crab is that too old just yet! Besides you always were the talented one for bringing out the best in his character and if I recall even his schoolyard sweetheart too!
