Description
German/prussian first armored cruiser created in 1896. The ship began service in the East Asian Fleet, taking part in the Boxer Uprising and the evacuation of the German population from Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War. In the years 1910-15 it underwent modernization, after which it served as a training unit. Two years later, the ship was disarmed and withdrawn after the end of the war. Armed with 2 twin 240mm guns, 12 single 150mm guns (two guns removed during modernization) and 10 single 88mm guns (all removed during modernization). It was the only vessel of this class and the first armored cruiser built for the Kaiserliche Marine.
