yeah i know what you mean, im doing a large scale painting of this drawing- and its going to be toned with newspaper clippings and then painted over with diluted paint so that the paint will be more translucent and you will be able to see the newspapers under neath

you are quit right about not having legends nowadays.
i got the feeling that you got inspired from the war in palestine and israel. well, as an israeli vetern I can tell that this kids throw stones on tank only for the media. some times they are been asked by photographers to do that in order to get some nice shots (camera's shots, not gun's shots). they know nobody will shoot them specially when there is the reporters around. so there isn't any real heroism without any real danger.

its true, and i am sure, i think some of the most real footage comes from photographers who are in the military, and freelance photographers who do it for the art of it. because they are taking a risk being unaffiliated. i've never met an israeli veteran before, however i do know a number of israelis and i think growing up it sort of made me aware of the middle east especially the jewish and muslim religions and their contrast. i try not to take sides because i am not involved living in america, and because i knew two people back in highschool one from israel and one from lebanon and they never were malicious persay, but they were always at eachothers tempers...i also think because of the legend thing, even though i was inspired by photographs that were potentially unreal, as far as threat goes, its more the idea of oppression - like david and goliath, david was considered a great man who overcame much in life and so the metaphor was created. thats basically how i make my modern legends - the paintings of david and goliath are like the journalist photos of the war in israel and iraq, there are alot of photos taken that are not real but they mimic something that is too real for photos.

Lilcochinito In reply to jadedjen [2004-03-07 22:20:23 +0000 UTC]

well actually i did a base drawing with pencils but i did the rest with just a sharpie marker. and the idea, i did it in a drawing for 2D design class my prof was telling us to look through news papers and if we saw any interesting photographs we should use them together or the ideas in them to draw a piece and i found one of that awesome tank and then of kid civilians throwing rocks, this is actually unfinished and the original is stowed away somewhere in my portfolio but i like it as it is, im glad you like and and thanks for the fav!!

i found it so amusing that this is the world we live in. btw, i am not so sure if this was an actual part of history or just a bedtime story, but there was a story of one man who fired shots at the tank, and he really blew up the tank with a bullet passing through the machinegun... but guess that wouldn't be happening in this piece of yours. funny how the world is rotating.

btw, i love how you're using ink and pen since i can never create cool stuff like this! awesome combination of ink and pencil. details look great, as well. keep up!

Lilcochinito In reply to liesean [2004-02-01 23:05:58 +0000 UTC]

thanks! i sort of started off with inking, way back in middle school i got really into comic drawing, like american style, either spawn or marvel i didnt like most of DC but some was good. so yeah pencil and ink is what i've been working with the longest even if i only use it occasionally, im glad you like it
