Awake2dreaM [2018-03-19 21:22:31 +0000 UTC]

The episode was on the other night where Kirk "rescues" Spock from his hippy-like spores-induced trance with a barrage of anti-Vulcan racism jibes, mainly about Spock's parents... sort of like "yo momma gots emotions".
And as with nearly all Kirk's gambits, it did the trick up to the point where Spock said that under the spore's influence was the first time he had ever experienced love. The show ended before it could show Spock having a good cry after punching the vending machine in the toilets.
(C'mon guys... we've all been there The number of vending machines I've bust my hand on ...)

It's funny, all through the original series Kirk and Bones deride Spock's cold logic. But when he goes totally emo on them instead, they panic and have a fistfight about it.

Awake2dreaM In reply to Loneanimator [2018-03-20 11:09:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they were really the most unstable dysfunctional bunch of people to put it charge of a massive battleship when you think about it .
Also, what WAS with Dr. McCoy??? He spent more time on the bridge throwing in his opinions than he did in sickbay doing what he was supposedly paid to do, whatever that was! Possibly drinking and waxing his arms? And it's a weird thought that in the 24th century everyone will have such badly stained smokers' teeth! (HD really didn't do them any favours .)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loneanimator In reply to Awake2dreaM [2018-03-21 08:55:22 +0000 UTC]

The original series, at least season one, is incredibly uneven when it comes to the behavior of the characters. The writers didn't really have a grasp on them, yet. McCoy is remembered as this charming grouch, but in the first season he's just a bully and a bordeline alcoholic, it seems. Scotty also seems overly fond of booze.

Awake2dreaM In reply to Loneanimator [2018-03-21 12:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Not to mention a complete racist. There's no way he'd get away with calling someone a pointy-eared green blooded freak in the contemporary office environment. He'd be on a written warning. It would appear in the future political correctness will go out of the airlock.
In the beginning they probably all thought of it as justΒ  a western show set in space, as nearly all of the actors were plucked from doing wild west shows, and were stuck in that mindset. Every time you see a redshirt or an alien native you can imagine they have just popped in from the next studio where they were also an extra in Bonanza or something.

My dentist is called Dr. McCoy . And yep... she does get sick of me calling her "Bones" etc.

It's a great use of the classic Trek characters! I like how you did the colors and textures, and those details right down to the Andorian's antennas. Too bad Roddenberry didn't get Bruce Lee to give Shatner and company some lesson.Β Β
