Porco Rosso is my absolute feel good movie, it cheers me up every time I watch it. It has such a nice humor to it, the typically too soft hearted pirates Miyazaki likes to use and the American who wants to first become a famous actor and then the president… It’s just really funny. I also like the movie, because it’s so feminist. Like the scene in which Fio asks Porco if he doesn’t trust her to repair his airplane because she’s young, or because she’s a girl. And even though Porco is reluctant at first, he recognizes her talent and capability in the end. That really hit home for me, especially now that I entered the working world and have struggled many times with prejudices against women in certain jobs. And the scene in which only women built the whole airplane working on engines and big machines… I just love it.
