Is there a chance to get something similar but with nordic runes and maybe space for or attached hood?

While this is a departure from your usual style I think the really clean and the polished look gives it a very interesting feel that could be taken several different ways. I, as always, adore the designs in your work. Was this piece harder that the normal stuff for you, easier, or just different?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to WeeFreeMrMan [2011-06-14 16:14:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
This was a commission and the customer desired this type of style for the character he wanted to use it for. It's not neccesarily easier or harder, just different.

I have to wonder what tool you use to engrave lines? A knife or a pyrgrapher or something else entirely? Your lines are so sleek and lovely. Great work! I love the dark sheen this has too. I imagine this for a rather dapper roguish fellow with flair for dark fashion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to Angelic-Artisan [2011-05-03 20:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, I mostly just use a knife, a hammer and a bevel tool. And I actually have no idea what a pyrgrapher is.
Thank you! I imagine the owner uses it for a rather rogueish fellow with a flair for dark fashion too, actually. Though I've never personally met the character he plays when wearing this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Angelic-Artisan In reply to Lynfir [2011-05-03 23:11:53 +0000 UTC]

A pyrography tool is like a wood burning tool. Basically a heat gun with various ends you can use to detail things. It's really fun, though a little hard to control!

By beveling tool I'm assuming you mean the v gouges (or similar grooving tools)? I have yet to try them on leather yet to see how they work out. Soo many tools, too little time! (and money XD)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to Angelic-Artisan [2011-05-13 23:04:33 +0000 UTC]

Hm, right! Interesting.
I prefer to keep burning out of my leatherworks though. It really messes up and dries out the leather in my opinion.

By bevel tool, I mean something like this: [link]

You don't need a lot of tools though. I have quite few of them and my boyfriend also makes some for me once in a while. (He's a metalworker) But I only end up using one or two of them a lot.

Hmm, actually forgot about this piece you once made.
Specially since its so totally different from your usual works.

Still quite love it.
>.< Torn between 2 sides now.
On one side I'm already in deep negotiation with another Leatherworker somewhere in Poland.

I do tend to vary in styles often, since it'd be a shame to become predictable, kind of. I usually make a set of a certain style of stuff, and then move on. This paticular style was designed for John. And since he really found it to his liking, there will be more stuff made in this style. In fact, I've already had a double scabbard comissioned for him too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to Lenchens [2010-02-05 12:16:05 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. The price highly depends on what you want with it in terms of patterning and leather.
For a piece like this I figure the price would be somewhere around 200 euro's. But I've yet to make another piece for I pretty much forgot to take note of the hours on the previous one.

Drakonis7 In reply to Lynfir [2010-01-04 05:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Sonadorexis [2009-12-30 13:14:41 +0000 UTC]

Unusual.... so... less stitching ^^.

really nice done, even if I donΒ΄t like rivets so much
ItΒ΄s an awesome symetry on the engravings, looks really nice.
But I would like to know, whether there are movable parts (i hope so ^^) and where?
Also, did you just stained it quite irregular, or how did you do that "use look"?

greetz

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to Sonadorexis [2009-12-30 14:21:28 +0000 UTC]

Haha, somewhat diffrent, yes.
Thanks! I'm not a huge fan of rivets either. Though I think they can look very awesome if used correctly, and in the right quantity. The rivets are a practical thing here, too. The rivets point out the places where the parts move. So there's several moving parts which move back in place.
As for the colour, I dyed it that way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sonadorexis In reply to Lynfir [2009-12-31 10:38:44 +0000 UTC]

Okay, then it makes sense. IΒ΄m still thinking about a stitching way of producing movable parts. But I got actually nothing I want to do with it ^^.
All in al it looks like you are trying out some different styles... donΒ΄t you like your "own" anymore or are you just looking for alternitives?

(But, this also looks just great ^^)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to Sonadorexis [2010-01-02 11:33:01 +0000 UTC]

There's probably a way to do it stitching aswell. Might try it sometimes for a project where it would fit.
And yes, indeed, I am. The fact that you have one style that suits you, doesn't mean that you have to be someone that knows how to do only one trick.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sonadorexis In reply to Lynfir [2010-01-02 11:39:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, thatΒ΄s right ^^. If youΒ΄d try it, just tell me how it worked out. IΒ΄m interested
What I like is, that its a totally different style, but it still looks pretty great ^^.
